It will be mostly contracted players and academy bois Mark. It looks like they won't be bringing guys in from the feeder clubs. Did I read somewhere on Twitter from last night's CRYS meeting that there will be a core group of 50 plus the academy feeding both the first team and U23s. The only way to maintain and improve standards, and overcomes the issues faced by regional select teams

any ideas on who the coaches will be for this as if what I read is correct, the tournaments starts in September and ending in October (more games to follow in April).

Do we have a coaching structure for it? Will it be Emyr Phillips and Dai Flanagan (is he still with us?)?

The first round, of the Celtic Cup, kicks off on September 7 but WalesOnline understands that the Scarlets and Cardiff Blues will face each other this weekend to prepare for the competition.

The starting teams, that are a mix of youth and experience, are believed to be as follows...

Cardiff Blues development: Dan Fish; Morgan Griffiths, Cameron Lewis, Harri Millard, Tom James; Ben Jones, Dane Blacker; Rhys Carre, Liam Belcher, Kieron Assirratti, James Down, Callum Bradbury, Cai Devine, Macauley Cook, Alun Lawrence (c).

Scarlets development: Morgan Williams; Tomi Lewis, Corey Baldwin, Ioan Nicholas, Ryan Conbeer; E Davies, Declan Smith; Rhys Fawcett, Taylor Davies, Javan Sebastian, Tom Price, Josh Helps, S Davies, Tom Phillips, Dan Davies.

Great looking squad for the U23’s competition. However I am a little concerned about the state of the premiership and in particular Llanelli RFC in this coming season as this U23’s competition will surely hit the RFC squad badly, alongside call ups to the region during the international period.

Other Premiership clubs have been spending probably what they cannot afford to try and stave off relegation. Llanelli is owned by the Region and unless the Region sees merit in having a feeder club it controls in Llanelli , then is is obviously going to be a very tough season for the youngsters at the RFC . The team and coaches will do all they can but the backing of the Region is obviously essentiall this season more than ever to ward off some of the challenges of the season. I am optimistic on this support as the idea of no Llanelli is a dreadful prospect.

Quite a few over 23's in the Blues squad. Is that allowed? or are we doing the same?
