to be fair to neath they have developed a lot of players for regional rugby over the last few season. while i don't agree that they should be buying all the best players in the league and playing a lot of old players but there is a place for having a good mix of old heads with exciting youngsters.

Neath have groomed players like James Hook, Aled Brew, Andrew Bishop, Cai Griffiths and Lee Beech to a lesser extent. I'm sure there are more.

When Wales adopted a regional system Llanelli RFC rightly took up the position that it has held for over 100 years as the regional side for West Wales taking on also the responsibility to represent and develop rugby in North East Wales. In its wake Llanelli RFC the semi professional side was formed. In my mind the Scarlets were the first Regional Side and the fact that Llanelli RFC own the Scarlets is just a way of facilitating the legal side of business. The new Llanelli RFC now only represent a small section of the region and considering the history of the Scarlets it’s a shame that the team does not change its name and also the colour of its jerseys. Possibly the original blue might be an appropriate colour.  It would be nice if the Scarlets would be able to buy an equal stake in all feeder clubs allowing them to have a greater input into the development of players. The Scarlets already do a tremendous amount in developing rugby in the region which unfortunately remains unrecognised in the press who promote the one true region as a Swansea City based team. The same team of course is aggressively marketing in our own region, and very successfully at that. They also have I believe have 4 feeder clubs in the premiership.

The region must be seen by all to be united and that the Scarlets belong to all in the region. It is the regions side and not just Llanelli’s side otherwise people in Llandovery, Carmarthen etc might just as well go and support a Swansea based club where the facilities are better and, in accordance with the papers albeit incorrectly, have the dream team playing.

The Scarlets as a region will survive but as a town club they haven’t got a chance in hell. By the way I was born in Llanelli and went to school in Llanelli.

I'm very pleased for Llandovery, given their great success in the cup. But the WRU's stance on a minimum level of facilities etc for the league is pathetic. Do they ever watch the premiership? The attendances aren't exactly spilling over the walls at Stradey and the other bigger venues.......

Interesting comment made by Huw Llewelyn Davies at the end of yesterday's game stating that Gareth Jenkins told Llandovery at the end of last season that they would be receiving NO support from the region in any shape or form this season.

According to H.Ll.D this decision was immediately overturned by Phil Davies once he came in and plans are afoot to increase the clubs input into the region.

You know the more I hear about the Gareth jenkins regime the more I realise it was time for him to go. Did a great job in Llanelli over the years but had too much power by the end and no accountability.

Thats exactly it. So why the push for such an elevated level of capacity and facilities to host premiership games? Bonkers.

For example, and with respect, anyone who went to Seven Sisters for the KM Cup game this year could see that you don't need the Millennium Stadium to host a decent game. Beddau & Bonymaen have been properly shafted by the WRU.

Second year running now that the winners of the leagues below havent been able to get promoted, its an abosolute shambles the WRU need to take a long hard look at this league and help make t a successful league

This ground criteria is another way of ring fencing the league... apart from maybe pontypool or Carmarthen, who else meets the criteria?

We need as positive a profile in Carmarthen, Narberth, Llandovery etc as we can possibly get.

That is obvious.

Always had a soft spot for Quins and Carmarthen in general - they've provided the club with some great players and a lot of supporters over the years.

A different view point.........

When the likes of Garan Evans, Darren Daniel, Vernon Cooper, John Mills and Phil John have played for Llandovery, this hasn't only served to help the Scarlets, but the players and the Region in giving them valuable game time. Remember somebody also looses his place in the Llandovery squad and goes to play on dual for e.g. Aberystwyth. The flow of players MUST work both ways???

Without Premiership feeder clubs, what would these players be doing from one weekend to another as you are restricted to 2 Regional players. So you couldn't have them all playing for Llanelli RFC?

Come on have a look at the bigger picture. The Region needs every bopdy to buy into the Regional concept and it is clear that some people just don't understand it!

Bottom line we all need each other..like it or not!!
