National Libraries Day Saturday 6th Feb 2016.
An intimate music event next month will see Llanelli rising stars Cut Ribbons perform never before heard material at the town's library to mark National Libraries Day The indie rock fizzy pop five-piece, fresh from a BBC Maida Vale session, will be bringing their music to their hometown for a stripped back acoustic performance. The band will perform on Saturday, February 6, 11:30am, in Llanelli Library's beautiful Athenaeum Hall, as part of a nationwide celebration of libraries. Vocalist and guitarist Aled Rees said: "We think that libraries are still an integral part of society — books are always there for us. "I think this is just a way of making the library a platform for a multitude of different things. "Llanelli Library has got this fantastic space upstairs and to put music into a place like that where you normally wouldn't find it, that in itself becomes more of a spectacle." With lots in the pipeline for this year, the Ribbons are holing themselves away writing tracks for a new album. After band member changes in the last two years, Mr Rees said this new line-up was gelling into a new sound. "It's really exciting right now, musically," he said. "We are writing as a collective, and with new people in the band that is taking us down avenues we haven't explored before." Cut Ribbons is offering up its own time to play the concert next month in support of the library, and will be debuting some new songs. "It's a fantastic resource in our town," said Mr Rees. "It looks absolutely beautiful as well. What people forget is we are doing this for our own enjoyment as well." On the recent session at London's Maida Vale studio, Mr Rees said: "We played in studio three, and there was a big plaque saying it was the last place Bing Crosby recorded before he passed away. "It's every musician's dream to play there." Edited by PE SA - 23 January 2016 at 11:20am |
