Just read this on the PRO14 website

What on earth are the Off-field mitigating circumstances?

Plus, reckless rather than intentional re the punch? You’d imagine he meant to punch the victim.

4 week ban - very, very lucky guy.

I'd also like to know what we're the off-field mitigating factors...

Yes its interesting words. I assume he went around to apologise for the incident to player and coaches ?but you would generally expect that anyway. It also wasn't a 'Jim Williams special'  or like the one on Adam Jones from the Bok second row a few seasons back. I assume he also has a very good record.

This is what it says"

Michele Rizzo (Edinburgh Rugby) – Four Weeks

Michele Rizzo of Edinburgh Rugby faced a Disciplinary Hearing today via video conference and has been banned for four weeks.

A Disciplinary Panel convened in Neath, Wales to consider the red-card decision against the player resulting from the Round 4 fixture against Scarlets on September 23, 2017.

The red card was shown by referee John Lacey under Law 10.4 (h) – A player must not charge into a ruck or maul. Charging includes any contact made without use of the arms, or without grasping a player.

The Disciplinary Panel, comprising of Simon Thomas (Chair), Rhian Williams and Richard Cole (all Wales), concluded that the player was guilty of reckless rather than intentional behaviour and therefore warranted a mid-range sanction point of six weeks.

In light of the off field mitigating circumstances, the Panel applied mitigation of 40 per cent and reduced the ban to four weeks."

I have to say, this seems pretty weak to me, because:

1. No mention at all is made of the fact that Rizzo's shoulder made contact with Cawdor's head - it wasn't just 'charging into a maul', but hitting a guy in the head, causing a concussion.

2. It's a total joke to claim that what happened was 'reckless rather than intentional' as anyone who has looked at the recording can tell.

What it amounts to is that the disciplinary panel are a bunch of limp dicks. Or maybe they need a visit to Specsavers?

Yep. He was rather more feisty and fisticuffy  than Cawdor with his shoe off as 'Mr Spanky 'last season on the streets of Aberystwyth.  Blown his Ashes perhaps...? Cry
