Rumours going round Cardiff recently that the Blues, for some reason, are not keeping Aled Ward the current Wales U20 no8 who even has another year left at this level, and who was already showing promise, intelligence and maturity in the position last year. I've always been impressed with him and found him a courageous player, with good hands who gives 100% and although he may not yet be in the Nick Williams class as a ball-carrier, he will surely bulk up as he progresses. If he is actually available I think the Scarlets should make every effort to sign this excellent prospect.
He could even share lifts with fellow former Glantaf player Patchell or several other Cardiff based Scarlets!

That may prove to be the hook to get him here assuming we want him and he us.

Cardiff RFC's site says Aled Ward is 189 cms tall (6-2 in old money) exactly the same as Josh Mccloud but at 95 kgs, he is 15 kgs less than Josh. He would have a lot of bulking up to do as Josh is on the small side for a no. 8. And that is the problem. We all want a big no. 8 with good speed and workrate but they cost big money. So we have built a playing style around a fast high-workrate back row where size is not critical. Would Ward add to that?

I won't argue with the above statistics but my impression is the opposite -that he looks more solidly built than McLeod, although McLeod is probably  faster. Still, Aled occupied the Wales U20 spot for most of last season and still qualifies next season. I like both players and unless Condy comes through strongly and injury free next season we probably have need of both.

He certainly looks a very interesting prospect Ffidel at only 19. A lot depends on how Condy goes this season. He has the attributes to be a top no 8 but his body has to be up to it.
