Why is Pivac foolishly suggesting that it will be AWJ's choice if he makes the 2023 tournament? No way would Gatland have said anything like that. Don't get me wrong AWJ seems to me to be a pretty switched on guy who will know before anyone when the time is right to call time on his wonderful career but this is another example of Pivac saying way too much in public.

I think Gatland did something similar with Martyn Williams for the 2011 RWC. Williams was wrapped in cotton wool before the tournament, but then wasn't selected.

Bad form !

If he was in bad form, makes sense he wasn't selected.

TBH I fully expect over second rows to start over taking him in the run up to the 2023 RWC.

who do you think will be the second rows come 2023,  we have some good youngsters but will it be a bit soon for them ?

Personally I'd like to see ball and beard get a few games together however ball is injury prone and beard seems to be out of favour

I can see AWJ jacking it in after the lions tour, and I'm not sure he will even get selected for it.

AWJ has been of the greats, top player top leader and a proper legend but he is certainly on the downward slope and 2023 looks a bridge too far for him in all honesty

I'm not sure, there is certainly a chance for some youngsters to put up a hand. Like you I think Ball & Beard could be a good option. Cory Hill seems to have stalled somewhat.

The WoL are running an article outlining which youngsters could replace AWJ in the future, our own Morgan Jones is written about along with Rhys Davies & Ben Carter.

ETA: In writing up about Morgan, this very forum has been mentioned along with quotes from 2 posts.

Ospreys have revealed AWJ is likely to miss the start of the 6 nations following news he would be out for 'double digit' weeks from the injury.

Good chance to get a spot in the first team for his successor now. AWJ is an absolute legend, one of the true greats, but we need a replacement.

True... I'm not absolutely sure he is still up to the job (a bit like Italy's brilliant Parisse), but that's not a judgement - more of a question.

Morgan Jones certainly looks as if he is in with a shot, along with a few others.

The 6 nations squad will be interesting. I guess, if fit, the usual suspects will be named - Ball, Hill, Rowlands & Seb Davies with a 5th between Beard ( probably) & Morgan Jones who I think is ahead of Ben Carter, Rhys Davies and our own Jac Price. It will be interesting to see which of the 4 younger guys mentioned cements his place in the 2023 World Cup squad.

Rowlands hasn't impressed me so far - big, but doesn't use his weight/power. Hill is smaller but more dynamic, and had a decent game recently - I quite like him. Don't know what happened to Seb Davies - the 'coming man' a while ago, then went backwards - what's his form like now? I have no idea. Beard was a real nuisance in the mauls the other day, so advanced his cause. And we all like Morgan Jones!
