Can't see Jake being considered, he's behind 2 or 3 English locks and Gray, and AWJ plus the inevitable Irish selection.
Scott Williams would be picked if he played for England, and had the benefit of Eddie Jones as a coach, and good players inside him. Ken should go, as he is better than Best, but England may send 2 hookers. Nice to see North back in the game, although his running style still seems a bit high to me.

JD has got better with every game, but Joseph's antics may see him in the Test side, although his defence is a bit suspect.

Ken and George for me as hookers - Hartley surely can't be picked for the reasons given. Best 'past his'. The whole Wales front row showed up well, so I think Rob has a great chance.
After yesterday, Joseph is almost certain, which makes it harder for Foxy - he may still go, though. Scott in with a shout, though Farrell is almost certainly the test 12. Surely, Liam has to go - covers wing and 15, always beats the first man, like Joseph is one of those players adept at hitting an angle to split the defence... plus, he's ferocious in defence. Doubt that Jake will make it - too many good second rows. Same for our subs Cawdor and Samson - who definitely needs the whole summer off to let his ankle get back to where it should be - no summer tour with Wales, please!

I think with Liam, it depends on how many back 3 players they plan on taking. Hogg is a cert. Halfpenny is a cert on reputation. both English wingers are certs. Seymour for me is also a cert. North also a cert. Then you have the battle of Liam, Brown, Zebo etc. Lets not forget that Henshaw can also cover Full back. Cant see Liam being a cert as he has not had the greatest season. He was however very good v England, but I think other back 3 players have played far more consistent than him. Plus Howley is coaching the backs...he wont play Liam full back because "he does not pass"...has a point to be fair as he can be a little white line feverish at key moments. would he have passed like Halfpenny did for North to score in the corner? I'm not convinced. But for the Lions attack coach to say that about your full back play...does it bode well for him? I guess he knows what to work on.

At a rugby dinner last night, Jeremy Guscott picked his Lions team - the player he argued for most strongly was Ken Owens as hooker.
He dismissed Hartley out of hand and, although he liked Jamie George as back-up, was quite scathing of Rory Best, notwithstanding the All Blacks victory in Chicago - too easily sat down and bullied by opposition props, a racing certainty on tour in New Zealand. Interestingly, he saw Ken as 'Gatland's Man' - Gats sidelined Hibbard to make way for Owens, and Ken's stepped up to every challenge presented to him. Guscott was a centre, mind. ![]() |

Ken has been improving game on game. It would be great to see him on the plane to New Zealand. I suspect he may be our only Lion.

I only see the Lions as a distraction and another way of losing players through injury and burn-out. Like the UK it is a concept whose time has gone.

Can't see ken being captain. Not even considered for Welsh captaincy.
I agree with greenwood. No matter who you speak to, Owen Farrell is the ONLY nailed on starter for everyone. Thats the captain for me. I was highly impressed how he took the sarries game by the scruff of the neck and dictated a victory with little to no time left on the clock. Leader for me... My outside bet though for captaincy is Warburton. Past lions winning captain, playing excellent rugby at the right time, and to me forced his way in to be test Lions 7. |
