Got to say he is totally under rated. He came in after snyman and Earle went and in think people may have thought he was poor compared to them. But he has not let the jersey down and was excellent today. Well done Dai!!

Indeed - he was one of quite a few who enhanced their reputations today.

Yes, he certainly is underrated and with Jake out for a while he is going to play a big part in our season, starting next weekend against Benetton.
He is another one of those great overseas signings that the club are great at, if I’m not mistaken he is one of those time servers or one of those who aim to qualify to play for Wales.
Also liked the look of Cummins when he came on this afternoon (pardon the pun), he looks like someone who is quite abrasive and physical. We need different kinds of players to be successful and hopefully this squad that we are slowing building will go onto greater success

Thought he was excellent.

His contract is up at the end of the season, any word on whether we are looking to renew or are we trying to get a replacement. When does the time serving rule change come in, because if the current rules still stand he will be WQ in about 14 months.

Cummins is one of the last to qualify under the 3 year rule. I think it’s contracts from 1/1/2018 but could be wrong.

So if Bulbring signs a new contract for next season then he falls under the 5 year rule rather than the 3 year rule because that applies to contracts signed after 1st Jan?

No, contract renewals don't count. It all comes down to the date you joined a club on a permanent deal. If Bulbring stays here 3 years he becomes WQ.

Reading the quote from world rugby confuses me further
"The reformed Regulation 8 ensures that a player has a genuine, close, credible and established link with the nation of representation, and the key amendments are:

The 36-month residency requirement is increased to 60 months with effect from 31 December, 2020 (unanimously approved)"

Does that mean that anybody who signs/resides between 01/01/2018 and 31/12/2020 comes under the remit of the current 3 year rule or the 5 year rule (which doesn't come in to effect for over 3 years?

You need to have been here 5 years before 31/12/20.
So in reality RWC 2019 is the last competition where 3yr residents can get their first cap.

When Bulbring signed in February 2016 press reports stated he signed a 3 year contract until the end of May 2019. I looked it up earlier. So will be WQ before the end of his Scarlets contract. WP was also quoted in the media recently saying that Cummins was brought over at this stage of the season to beat the 31/12/2017 deadline for 3 year time serving.

I don't think we should get carried away - Bulbring looks like a player who is well up to pro-14 standard, but he has yet to make me think that he is good enough to play for Wales (unlike Hadleigh, for example). Having said that, second row is a position where Wales lack strength in depth (what has happened to Brad davies? He was non-existent for the Os v Munster yesterday) - so who knows? If he continues to play well, and our younger second rows fail to progress, he could be a contender.

(Pity about Beirne, BTW!)

I don’t think we are suggesting that Bullbring is international class and good enough to play for Wales when he qualifies under residency. What we are doing is building a strong squad made up of local welsh talent and players who meet the time serves criteria - this category of player suits the club moving forward as they don’t count as NWQ players which in turn allows us to bring in further overseas players who are eligible to play all season long.
