Premiership Rugby in England has been approached by venture capitalists CVC about a potential buy-in.
The news, broken by Owen Slot in The Times yesterday, would see CVC taking a 51% share in Premiership Rugby. This would bring a cash windfall for the clubs, all of which (bar Exeter) have been making heavy losses in recent years, so this could be an attractive option for them. It would likely make Prem Rugby Ltd more of a money-making organisation, which would put it in greater conflict with the RFU over time. It's one of the options the PRL are considering, they say, and no decision is imminent, especially as they differ in the valuation of the league - CVC value it at £550m and want 51% of that, PRL think it's worth more. Interesting to see how this develops, but if investors are now seeing rugby as a good bet, it's only going to accelerate the commercial focus of the game and the race to conquer new markets. |

If this takes off, we in Wales are in some trouble, unless the WRU change things.
Maybe the talk about the changes to dual contracts is the start. The £ is taking over the game !!!!

The clubs have decided against this as a 'preferred option', but it opens the door to more outside investment.
