THE Scarlets will consider fielding all their Wales squad members when they begin the defence of their Celtic League title next week. Director of rugby Gareth Jenkins insisted he backed Wales fitness coach Andrew Hore's view that players who went on the summer tour of Argentina and South Africa should not appear for their regions until completing 10 weeks of solid conditioning work. But Jenkins revealed the Scarlets might pick the likes of Dafydd Jones and Dwayne Peel if any of Wales' other three regions fail to agree to a draft charter drawn up during talks with the Welsh Rugby Union. "We want to be supportive, but we must be fair to our supporters and, if other regions are going to play their international players, it is only right and proper we do," said Jenkins. "There is confusion really surrounding Andrew Hore's request to the regions." The thorny matter had been due to be addressed at a meeting with WRU general manager Steve Lewis on September 8. But The Western Mail understands emergency talks have been called and will take place between the Wales team management and the regions tomorrow. |
