Gavin has been quietly building into an influential player for the Scarlets IMO. He has been consistent for a number of games now, with a hugh work rate. And his effort last week against Glasgow was superb. He's starting to get back to the Gav of Bath, when he was a pain in the ar*e no7. Pain for the opposition that is.

Agree with other posters - Gavin Thomas has often been my 'man of the
match', and is not afraid to get on the floor and scrap for the ball.
He always seems to give 100% The only thing he lacks is just a bit more
weight/power; Martyn Williams has the same problem.

There's still a role in modern game for smaller 7s. Just depends on how the team are planning on playing. Johnny O'Connor and Richie Pugh are two youngsters to watch out for in this position. |

Trust me, he's no small bloke. He doesn't need to bulk up at all. He's built like a brick and uses the power that he has to great effect. Having a cracking season so far, long may it continue. |

Gavin also made some great breaks using his pace, and his passing from turn over ball has been great.

Gavin has been outstanding so far, If anyone can make something of a back row player its Gareth Jenkins. Apart from Andy Powell Gavin is by far the best signing this season.

Gavin is an excellent player, as I wrote before (probably even when
some of you were still ***ging him off!). I know he's not exactly
'small', BUT there are times when he gets bounced backwards from rucks,
or slips off the odd tackle, just because of that slight lack in
weight/power compared to some of the big boys out there (much as I hate
to say it, England seem to have back rowers who are big AND fast at
present - and what about that All-Black who played the Baa-baas?).
I rate Gavin at least as highly as Martyn williams on present form, and would be happy to see him in the Wales squad. |
