SCARLETS V BARBARIANS TICKET UPDATE

The event on 31st January 2009 promises to be a highlight in the Welsh rugby calendar held the weekend before the six nations starts, and is expected to appeal a broad spectrum of rugby supporters.

And the region has announced a radical new pricing policy for the game to mark this one-off showcase event. All seats for the Barbarians game will be priced at just £15 – with the best seats selling on first come first served basis, with £10 for enclosure (standing), £5 for a junior ticket with under 8’s going free in the family West Stand if accompanied by an adult.

All of the region’s current season ticket holders will be entitled to use their season ticket booklet as free entry for the official opening and Barbarians game as a gesture of thanks for their ongoing support of the Scarlets.

Chief Executive Stuart Gallacher said: “This is a very special occasion for us as we celebrate the official opening of what is beyond doubt one of the finest rugby stadia in Europe. The new facility is a source of great pride to the rugby team, those who work here and all our partners and sponsors.

“This is something that the whole of Welsh rugby should celebrate in and we want as many people as possible to be part of this historic and memorable event – just as we did at the closure of Stradey Park.

“We had fantastic support and a wonderful send-off event at Stradey and hope that we can welcome in the new era at Parc y Scarlets in a similar spirit.

“It is a huge fixture for us and one we are very excited about. We have some great rugby names for the Barbarians coming to play us in Llanelli to open this magnificent stadium.

“We are very mindful of the impact of the economic downturn on people’s pockets and we have worked hard on the pricing of this game since Christmas. We have therefore announced a special rate for our official opening and hope many of those who have yet to see this great facility will be part of the opening.”

The game will kick off at 2.30pm with a full pre-match entertainment programme prior to the game with an official opening ceremony attending by VIPs from government, WRU and the world of entertainment. The opening event will include a pitch parade involving 73 of the region’s affiliated clubs.

The match will mark a unique treble of historic fixtures between the two sides – the first for the opening of new accommodation at Stradey Park in 1965 and the second the club’s centenary celebrations in 1972.

The new stadium is a joint venture between the Scarlets and Carmarthenshire County Council.

Season ticket booklets will be required as proof before entry into the ground. Any season ticket holder coming to the game without their season ticket booklet will be denied entry.

Those who have already purchased tickets in advance of the new pricing scheme will be refunded for all tickets bought as soon as possible.

That is the best thing to come out of this region this season. (except for new stadium of course.)

Fantastic. Praise where it's due and finally, someone has seen some sense!

Diolch Scarlets.

Well done! Just what was needed to encourage the non-hardcore fans to get down to the Parc.
Now follow that up with a full-blown media campaign for the next three weeks, newspapers, radio, posters and television, and the stadium will be brimming for the game.
Up to us as fans as well to 'Bring along a Floater' for the game. If only a quarter of those come back afterwards for a regular season game, it will be well worth the effort.

In addition, add to the campaign the information about the Stade game next week.

shame i can't go got an interview with Cardiff uni :( after i said on my personal statement I'm a huge Scarlets fan.

Bit late, but great to see the club thinking of the supporters.  I'll give my ticket to my gran as a birthday present as she was thinking of getting one

Great news.

Do the SF posters earn a marketing fee from the club for their valuble contributions to the club seeing sense? Wink

So how will the seating work for season ticket holders?

Do we sit in our normal seats or is it a case of sitting wherever you like?

That is a very good pricing policy for this game.

Should be a good crowd now if we plug in the publicity machine.

It's never as easy as people think to make changes. We have been working on proposals for this and remaining games of the season as a result of the economic situation. These decisions can only finally be implimented after careful analysis of business plans etc to establish their impact and how these changes can be counter balanced somewhere else with budget savings etc.

You beat me to it! I bought 12 tickets at £27 each, 8 to retain the seats of season ticket holders, three non-season ticket holders, and one for a debenture holder who wanted to sit with us. I take it that I can claim money back on all these tickets. The ticket office told me that they are going through all the ticket sales to process refunds.

Anything other than a full house will now be a total disaster and will seriously question the future of professional rugby in West Wales.

Great idea by the region as there will be the extra spend on food, drink, club shop etc, etc.

As you said Mike, the publicity machine should now go into overdrive.
