The BBC link about the Hospreys new stadium is as follows

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_west/4117769.stm

The interesting part for me was as follows -

"When the stadium, funded by Swansea Council, was designed, it was with the aim of making it a seven-day-a-week facility. They've got to be able to use the stadium on non-match days in order to bring in income to pay for its running and up-keep,"

So is there anybody who can tell me, apart from where we will get 15,000 from on a regular basis, how we will get a full 6-7 day usage out of it, especially when we will not have a football league club to help with the revenue.

Apologies for bringing up one of my favourite subjects, but it is one that still worries the hell out of me.

what has that got to do with the scarlets? you really have not grasped the concept of this move have you? this stadium will be run independently! as will the morfa stadium. where will the ospreys get 20,000 from? you would be surprised how many extra people will come to a stadium that is comftable, has easy veiwing points all around, proper facilities, and most importantly easy access from all parts of the region!

the scarlets will only have to pay a annual fee for the use of the stadium, this payment will go to the independant company in charge of running parc newydd pemberton. they will be looking for other avenues during the week, like office rental, parties, concerts, and any other events that are currently 7 day a week events at cardiff arms park and most other stadia across the brittish isles that maximise their earning potential. the bonus for the scarlets is that this burden will be taken off their hands and run by a specialised firm.

do you understand now? the scarlets will not own this new stadium, just as the ospreys will not own the morfa stadium. they will be free to concentrate on building a region with a strong fan and player base. this is why this move was a gift from heaven, as it removed the shackles for the scarlets. look at the likes of bolton in the premiership, small time until they built a state of the art stadium. swansea city fc are lucky if they get bigger gates than the scarlets do, yet they think they can attract 20,000!

what other major sporting attraction is there for people west of llanelli? once this new stadium is build people will come. this move is similar to when they put hp sauce and hovis bread on the same advert for bacon butties! they both helped generate sales for each other, =win=win! the stadium will atract a certain amount of people who will shop in the commercial development before and after the game. the commercial development will attract shoppers that will decide to go and watch a game to entertain the family.

stradey could never offer this! or easy acces, or comfort, or facilities! tell you what pimpernel, when this stadium is build and we play our first game there against a big european team. and you come on here saying how great it is, i shall remind you that if it was left to people like you it would never have happened!

i dont mean to be rude to you mate, but i and many others have explained how this stadium is going to be miles better than staying at stradey. when we have big european games, our ground is not big enough, and we are not maximising our potential. not only can we do that in this new stadium , but its going to cost the scarlets next to nothing as well! it will be cheaper at the new stadium than stradey! i`ve heared so many pathetic arguements from you on this it beggars belief! from that fact that you have measured pemberton to the town hall, and that its a greater distance than stradey! (omg) its supposed to be the stadium that holds our regional team! not the town team! its not about how the town people get to the game, its about how the supports that have been coming to support the scarlets for years need to be facilitated in their journey from west wales.

if any subject should be worrying you, maybe it should be the fact that there are no youngsters coming through, and we are signing older players than we have currently got in the squad! who dont look half as good either!

Speedy, you say alot but still haven`t answerd any of my questions.

Forget the move for a minute, what I am saying is how are they going to use the stadium on a regular basis and what are they going to do when there is no rugby on.

White rock has the advantage of first class rugby and football. There were 10,000 at the Vetch yesterday and I remember 25,000 packed into the Vetch when Toshack took them up the tables and into the old first division, so believe me the football interest is there. Forget the Hospreys. The stadium wasn`t built for them. It is primarily a football stadium where rugby will be played. It is not the other way round. If Swansea didn`t have a league football team a new stadium wouldn`t have been built.

The facilities and access have nothing to do with the points I am making. The point I am making is can CCC run the stadium on just Scarlets revenue alone. There will be an upkeep cost and it will be considerable., or would you like them to let the new stadium fall into disrepair like the current management have done at Stradey

Swansea is a big city and it would appear that to make it financially viable, it must be utilised 6-7days a week, and that is above any sport being played there.

I`m just wondering how the "owners" intend to do this. As a supporter I have a right to express caution over the move. I find your "build it and they will come" attitude to be very reckless.

How does building a new stadium ensure "easy access" if your travelling from Wrexham?????? Will the new stadium have time travel incorporated into it?????

Most stadiums make money from the sport that is played there. They certantly don`t have pop concerts every other day as you laughably claim.

Interesting also that you view the council as a specialised firm.

I have never done that, but the distance IS greater. I just proved that the likes of my dad and his friends, who currently cut across peoples park, will now be no longer able to walk and will have to use transport of sorts. And of course, Trostre Park is a traffic friendly zone as well isn`t it??

This also blows the "less traffic, easier access" arguement out of the water.

If SG is to make these claims in public meetings don`t you think he should get his facts right and not rely so much on spin??

Northampton Saints make almost all their revenue from non rugby related matters. Conferences and weddings et al, with no connection to the rugby side, will be the revenue streams for the new stadium. People in west Wales still get married surely?

The traffic will be horrendous if they do build a new stadium where they propose to build it with the retail park being on it's doorstep and only 1 road in and out plus it's not going to be very accessible by foot.

Traffic at the Trostre roundabout is already bad.  Think what its going to be like with the stadium and the additional retail units.

oh dear! look did i, or did i not explain to you how cardiff utilise their ground all through the week, in much the same as the saints, and almost all other owners with new state of the art stadiums do. there is a huge market out there for functions, meetings, conferences etc. but once again i shall point out that this will be none of the scarlets concern! the council will employ people to run the stadium on a day to day level. do you think the football association in england arranged concerts and the like for wembley? no there was a promotional team put in place to organise and see over these events!

to be honest, its not your questions that are driving me mental, its the fact that no matter how many times people explain to you that your question has no relevance, you keep asking the bludi same one!

just thought i`d mention "THE NEW BERWICK RD BY PASS THAT IS PLANNED FOR THE FRONT OF TROSTRE" does anyone on this board pay any attention to plans that are passed for the town? you see the problem with trostre roundabout is, (after having a survey conducted out on it, remember those people counting the cars on and off each exit?) is that 50% of it is just passing through to go down the coastal link road. so a new by pass to filter through traffic away from the people wishing to shop is going to be built from berwick roundabout down past the coastal side of trostre, linking back up with the coastal road near morfa. this was given planning permision long before the new stadium was even mentioned!

God youd think we would have more to worry about than the new stadium, my wife in her infinite wisdom decided we should go to the new shopping complex by the Morfa Stadium, which is fantastic, might venture down there to watch the Swans next season, but the traffic was absolutely bloody awful and the park and ride had queues 50 yds long there will be horrendous problems there on match days.

We really do need a new stadium, remember its only a 15000 capacity StRADEY HAS HELD FAR MORE THAN THAT IN THE PAST! and as such will attract more families with new comfortable facilities, I took my little boy who was 2yrs old to Stradey this season and the toilets are a bloody disgrace so now I dont take him ,my wife is even considering buying a season ticket for the new stadium, not to happy about that though!!
