So he's signed a central contract.
If Cardiff refuse to play him will he just play test rugby? |

he's really thrown a spanner in there now. awj turned down the central contract to stay with the ospreys; word was the wru were going to move him to the blues as well.
there's already an agreement between the regions to not play centrally contracted players without full agreement. not a chance in my mind that the other 3 regions are going to agree to the blues getting a world class player for free while we get absolutely nothing. not a hint of fairness. think this might cause some trouble. divide and conquer tactics from the wru again. |

I've just seen this flash up on the BBC. No details. So he's joined the WRU? What does that mean? Does he leave the Blues, stay there, placed wherever the WRU want?
"Wales Captain signs for the WRU". What a coup for Wodger. Your question is pretty important in all this.

The question here is this with the Blues co-operation? Based on what Thomas has recently said, no. Thomas was in fighting mood in his latest statement.
Wil Warburton may be playing for Ponty or Neath next year? Has the crisis taken a new twist? I really cant see what the WRU are trying to achieve here. Signing central contracts with one or 2 players is futile. |

So, the WRU acts just like a rich French club in outbidding a region for a player. What sort of message does that send out to the regions from the Slimeball I just hope the regions stick together and standby their statement that they won't play centrally contracted players.

Peter Thomas has been the most vociferous anti Roger voice in the last month. Would he really split ranks all of a sudden?
I guess this is a move by the Union to put huge pressure on the regions to play centrally contracted players. Sam has been put in a terrible position to be fair. |

Lewis says - "I am extremely grateful to the Cardiff Blues Chairman, Peter Thomas for
his understanding when the WRU Chairman [David Pickering] and I met him
on Wednesday to outline this proposed plan."

That's the worst thing, they've inflated his salary by £70k. No Welsh Region would have done that - and that's our money wasted on a futile effort to keep a player in Wales. I hope Rhys and Scott don't end up in this situation. |

Sam was put in no more of an awkward position than AWJ.
Should have signed for the Blues or a foreign team. IMO he shouldn't be skipper as he isn't even guaranteed of a starting spot - Tipiric is ahead of him on form IMO. If love the Blues to not pick him. |

I'd much rather players leave Wales than sign up to that WRU and get placed in another team (probably Blues) without the other team getting anything.
Huge insult as a player to be moved teams when they probably don't want to, I'd leave for France straight away. Edited by Iwlew - 25 January 2014 at 3:53pm |

Is it not against IRB regulations to sign a player with the intention of placing him at a team, without the consent of that team?
