Does anyone on here have knowledge of the City of Lyon who can recommend an area for a group of us to stay for the final in May 2016. There seems to be numerous options of hotels as you would expect, even seen a decent price for the Ibis Budget but have no clue where that is in relation to where you would want to stay. We don't need anything special cheap and clean will do.
I'm ever the optimist. There is a group of 8 of us from all different Aviva and Welsh Clubs that travel to where ever the final is as a crusade but due to circumstances we have not done the last couple. One of the Boys is a Blues Fan so he is wasting his time even booking but still going. |

The city centre is La Presquile, flanked by the Saone & Rhone rivers. Visiting the city (no rugby trip) I'd opt for either La Presquile (more or less, the centre) or Vieille Lyon (this is West of the Saone and is the oldest part of the city) but the new stadium is right the way out on the east side.
They are proposing a tram line to there which, when built, will get to there in about 30 mins from Place Bellecour on La Presquile. http://www.grandstadeol.com/presentation/ |

Sorry for the delay in thanking you for your replies and information which has been greatly received, we have just been just verifying our numbers going before we sort this out.
MM, we are just looking for somewhere cheap and clean and relatively convienient for us to be well positioned for a decent afternoon/night out on the Friday in Lyon. We appreciate we may have to travel out to ground for match and back into town afterwards. Apart from Cardiff this is the same in most places. Ibis in Toulon was just the ticket and the added bonus it was literally a stone throw from the ground there and rugby orientated bars. Edited by Turkish Fez - 03 October 2015 at 2:05pm |

Where would you suggest flying to in and around Lyon, from London/the south east? I'm looking to see if there are any nearby alternatives to Lyon itself.
Also, any views on likely train fare and feasibility from London? All help much appreciated. |
