Ok I noted Shane's selection today so decided to give it a go. Obviously we have to assume fitness when selecting.

Itoje at 6? I would have put him at 4 with AWJ. Faletau at 6 and Liam at full back. You need aces in their places especially against the ABs.

Hogg is quality, that's no doubt. But he only does the spectacular against lower ranked teams. Against top teams he's slightly above average. Liam for me, with h/p on wing. I wouldn't pick the English centres but don't know who replace them with

Hogg is not the best defensive full back around. |

I think you're selecting a team based on reputation. IMO, quite a few of these players are either a little past their sell-by date (probably Cole, AWJ, Murray and Sexton, for example) or too injury prone - haven't had a chance to prove themselves recently (Tuilagi, O'Brien... B Vunipola is now injured, too). Hogg is talented, but also a 'Mr Angry' to rival Brown... too hot-headed IMO. I'd have Liam at 15, or maybe Rob Kearney. The real answer, though, is that I have no idea at this stage, with the 6N to come. Some players we don't expect will come good and break through - other 'favourites' will disappoint, or get injured. The only back I see as a certain starter if fit is Farrell; the only forwards Itoje and B Vunipola - if recovered in time. All the other positions are up for grabs.

He's not as good as he used to be - like many, he's not been quite the same since copping some injuries - IMO, of course. (I have to admit I didn't see the Ireland AIs, so maybe my evidence is out of date!).

Well aber-fan he was magnificent in both games. Sexton I am worried about he seems to be prone to injuries now for some time from a series of concussions a year or so ago. I hope he can come though ok otherwise its Farrell to 10 for me with Henshaw to 12.

15. Sanjay - the second best FB in the world right now, just behind Ben Smith
14. Halfpenny - man of the series on the 2013 tour, can offer a lot on the wing 13. Henshaw - has the destructive power of Roberts, but is also a good footballer 12. Farrell - I don't like the bloke, but he has been consistently very good for some time now 11. Daly - a bit of a wildcard pick, but I've watched most of his games for Wasps and he is a brilliant player, will go on to get 60+ England caps 10. Ford - such a good player, controls the back line and has all the attributes of a world class 10 9. Webb - leader on the field, good speed of distribution and accurate passing 1. McGrath - strong scrummager, will be a close call between him and Vunipola 2. Hartley (c) - again, don't like him, but he has done really well since taking over as Eng captain and can see Warren going for him as captain 3. WP Nel - destructive scrummager, we will need to match NZ up front if we have a chance of winning 4. Alun Wyn - how can you not pick him, absolutely outstanding player and leader 5. Itoje - risen to fame very quickly, will go on to get 70+ Eng caps and a very good lock 6. Stander - unknown a couple of years ago, now one of the best in his position in world rugby, there are 5+ players that will be vying for this position e.g. 7. Warburton - will have to play well in the 6 Nations if we wants to start at 7, will have a lot of competition from Tipuric, Haskell, O'Brien etc, but on his day he's right up there with the best 7's in world rugby 8. Faletau - will be a close call between him, Vunipola and Heaslip, but I just think he offers more than the other two, he isn't just a battering ram, he has a phenominal work rate and his teams play better when he is playing well

I'm sorry but the level at which Conor Murray is playing at right now is higher than its ever been. How can a 27 year old be past their sell by date? Also, I wouldn't say that AWJ is passed his sell by date either, look at his performance levels from the past 18 months, there's still life in the old dog!

Fair enough. He wasn't that great last season. We'll see how he gets on in this season's 6N - I hold to my main point that it's far too early to judge players' form. As for centres - Henshaw looked good before his injury, and the Scots have a couple of contenders... but again, it's far too early to pencil in,let alone ink in, most positions, IMO.

See above for Murray. As for AWJ - great player, but surely a bit knackered by now? I don't see him as being as powerful or as influential as he was 2-3 seasons ago. Once again, though - let me insist that it's all to play for in the 6N. AWJ may well convince in that tournament. (Please note - I fully expect him to make the tour - I was questioning his place in the 'first XV.)
