Simon Thomas reporting on major structural changes within the WRU - effectively setting up 4 sub-boards to focus on:
  • Professional/Performance game
  • Community game
  • Commercial
  • Financial
This will allow the sub-groups, including co-opted members, to concentrate on these key areas outside the usual Board structure, so they'll be quicker and more effective at implementing plans. The full Board won't have to convene to discuss every aspect of every area now, and meet maybe only 4 times a year rather than the current 12+.

This could finally start to see the separation of governance the pro game from the amateur clubs - good news if so. The Community game should benefit greatly from this separation, which was recommended by a Sport Wales review of the WRU.

Full story here:

Simon's also got a full 'state of the game' interview with WRU Chairman, Gareth Davies:

Crucially, he says Wales needs 4 pro teams, so everything is geared around that - any talk of mergers in Wales is wide of the mark. Thumbs Up

Anything that improves the running of the WRU is to be welcomed - let's hope these ideas have the desired effect.
