10 years ago today we beat Munster 24-15 in the Heineken Cup quarter final at Stradey.
Without a doubt the best day of my Scarlets supporting life. Will never forget that night. |

Thanks. A nice thought and memory, especially for those of us who are a bit later to the party.

Was this the same season when Scarlets did the double on Toulouse? (The latter have really deteriorated in recent times btw).

Yes it was and yes they have. Shame, really, as they were a great club. |

If you call Toulouse a chequebook team then virtually all professional teams are!! Especially in France. It is not as if they bought their way to success - they were pretty much always one of the best French teams and one of the best European teams prior to the game going professional

Not sure what the situation has been like for the last 1 or 2 years, but every year before then they had the highest wage bill of any rugby team in the world since the game turned professional. |

Sigh. No they didn't. They had the highest budget. Which means they were the best performing team in world rugby at getting income / revenue. Toulouse are no more of a checkbook [sic] team than the scarlets. |

Sigh. Absolute nonsense, id argue that they are more of a checkbook team because they import more of their players than we do. Most of their most celebrated players such as picamoles, vincent clerc, florian fritz, huget, nyanga, duautoir, beuxis, bru, heymans, ( the list goes on and on) are not from toulouse, they were poached by a rather large checkbook! |

I thought Wasps, Saracens and Toulon are now all wealthier and higher-spending than Toulouse.

No, but the Scarlets Academy is still prolific, far more so than almost any other pro rugby team in Europe. Look at the team that beat Edinburgh last week: Jonathan Davies, Steff Evans, Aled Davies, Wyn Jones, Ryan Elias, Samson Lee, Aaron Shingler, James Davies, Will Boyde, Emyr Phillips, Rob Evans, Gareth Davies, Dan Jones. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/39346678

Personally do not think there is any team in the three Northern Hemisphere elite leagues who have a better recent record at developing young local players. One other side I would suggest is on a par with us & that is Leinster. Their huge catchment area is a huge benefit yet we continue to manage to match their achievements which is a great tribute to all concerned.
