Cau’r Cyfarfod Cyffredinol Blynyddol Siaradwr Gwadd - I’w gadarnhau (Bar ar agor) Special Resolution: Trust Membership It has been 10 years since the formation of the Crys 16 Supporters Trust. From an organisation that initially focused on bringing the Scarlets team and hierarchy closer to the supporters with a series of annual events, during the last few seasons Crys 16 has evolved significantly. Not only were we integral in establishing the Joint Supporters Group (JSG), but we now sit on the Scarlets Board as non-voting members. We therefore have a direct insight into the machinations of the club, in addition to which we meet regularly with senior staff at the region, including Dave Stock and Jon Daniels to discuss a variety of concerns ranging from the match day experience, player welfare and contracts, as well as the ongoing relationship with the WRU. In meetings as part of the JSG, Crys 16 members have met with Martyn Phillips of the WRU and Martyn Anayi of the Pro 12 to discuss the potential evolution of the Pro 12 over the forthcomings seasons. Clearly, Crys 16 have therefore continued to give a voice to supporters in what has been widely accepted as an unprecedented period of instability for Welsh rugby, brought on by the tenure of Roger Lewis. However, despite the good works of the Trust, recognised this season by the Scarlets with the placement of the Crys 16 logo on the match day shirt, membership levels have remained static. Although the Trust has maintained a strong, core membership who consistently attend events throughout the season, there is a desire to reach out to a wider audience and build upon the thousands of Scarlets supporters, including loyal season ticket holders, who may not be aware of Crys 16. It has been recognised that potential bars to membership may be geographical, IT based or simply due to cost. Historically, due to membership being subscription based, there has been a reluctance to stream the events run at Parc Y Scarlets as this would clearly prejudice those people that have taken the time to not only join the Trust, but also to attend events. However, both the Trust and the Scarlets recognise not only the benefit of such advertising via social media as we continue to evolve in this increasingly technical/social media focussed world, but also recognise that many supporters are prejudiced through no fault of their own due to location and work commitments. The proposal - The Trust would initially generate its main income from a group of core sponsors who would donate on an annual or monthly basis. - All Scarlets season ticket holders would immediately be entitled to free membership of Crys 16. They would need to present a season ticket at an event to gain membership or register online. - Non-season ticket holders will still be able to join Crys 16 with a discretionary donation.
The advantages The Trust’s revenue would increase significantly, allowing us to further financially support the club in projects such as the Stradey gates renovation, as well as sponsorship of the regional feeder clubs. More people would be able to enjoy the Trust’s numerous events. The Trust would be able to stream parts of some events (the media sensitivity of some issues discussed at events means we would not be able to stream full events in many cases) online through social media. The obvious benefits of this would be the significantly increased potential reach of our events and the enhancement of our reputation as a Trust. The events would also
reach those members who would be unable to attend due to work or geographical factors. With the Board’s social media expertise and experience, we believe this would also help in taking our events to a younger audience, potentially inspiring them to attend matches in future. Once the concept of streaming parts of events has been proven and the statistics for the number of people viewing are obtained, the Board is confident that sponsoring these events will become an attractive proposition for companies, generating more revenue. Companies will be able to place banners at the events which will be in vision during the streaming of events. Edited by CRYS16 - 04 July 2017 at 5:08pm |

The ASM Yellow Army sets an example the Scarlets fans could do well to follow.

Including all Season Ticket holders as automatic Crys16 members makes complete sense, especially as there should be a bumper crop of STs for this season. Gets my blessing!
Even among supporters' groups, Crys16 has a fantastic reputation for engagement with club & fans - only right that this should be built upon as Champions. They do great work, and it would be great to extend their reach. As an aside, the latest social media output from the Scarlets, particularly on Twitter, is also getting plaudits from envious rival fans - it all reinforces the impression of the Scarlets as a genuine community- and fan-focused rugby club. |

These are very sensible proposals, especially for those within easy reach of Llanelli. Streaming events live may also be of interest to a good number, though I have to admit that, having taken early retirement in part because I could no longer face the mind-numbingly boring meetings at work, watching a meeting online does have somewhat limited appeal! (I know, I know - the topics would be of much greater interest - but work meetings formed a sort of 'aversion therapy', which makes me cringe at the thought!) The summaries on SF from Crys 16 are very much appreciated, BTW.

Having been a member for a few years but never been able to attend a meeting due to work it will be good to be able to look in on them online occasionally, I don't see the need to completely scrap the membership though maybe just change it to a voluntary suggested donation basis as I'm sure many existing members would happily continue to pay in the £10 a year just to help support the work of this group.

Thanks for the feedback. Of course, anyone who attends meetings and events or not will be able to donate to the Trust in person or online at any time with an amount of their choice, or become more formal sponsors with a larger sum.

No longer a member but curious as to what impact the proposal has on the status of Crys16, will it still be able to be classed as a Supporters Trust? One member, one share, one vote etc?

Thanks. Interesting. I have to say I need convincing about the "automatic membership". If you don't take a positive decision to join, and don't pay subscription then are you really a member and how do you benefit the trust or its aims?
I'll be there on Tuesday to hear about it but curious to know what the perceived benefits are apart from inflating the number of members |
