It will be really disappointing but not unexpected:- http://www.limerickleader.ie/news/sport/259533/irfu-set-to-bring-tadhg-beirne-home.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

Yes it's expected I guess. He really should be in the IRFU set-up and he won't get that opportunity unless he's back over there.

Going to enjoy this season with him in our side.
Hrs been great. I'd rather he went to France than go back to Ireland. |

Aslong as we beat the English, its ok.

quietly sign him up for another year, so that we at least get some Wonga should he leave. rugby really needs more of a football take on transfers. if they want him let them pay for him.

I can't see any of the Irish sides suiting his style of play as much as ours. I would say there's a good chance of him going back to being a fringe player or playing 6 more often if he went home

You can't argue with him wanting to return. He would surely want to pursue international honours.
But I would be gutted, as he's been superb.

Can't see why, in reality, he couldn't play for Ireland while with us. He is surely going to be drawn home thats for sure but his International ambitions might be better served with us. Schmidt does not have any Gatland style law as far as I am aware. At the moment he is a starter every week for us - that is a huge incentive. Only one thing for it we will have top retain the pro 12 & win the Champions Cup to keep him!!!!

typical irish press, says they are signing him but in the article they hope to sign him. would tadgh actually want to go back after the irish provinces didnt want him? he seems to be very happy with us. if we can get him on a good contract why not stay like simon easterby did?

Isn't it a bit early for Munster to be tapping up a player under contract?

Simon Easterby played for Ireland whilst with us. Earned his first and last cap whilst with us.
Jonny Sexton played for Ireland whilst out in Racing Metro. If he's good enough, will be picked. Simple as that. He's a fine lock, and it's a position they are struggling with so I'd assume they would pick him regardless of where he plays if he continues to perform the way he is. Obviously wouldn't begrudge him a move back home though, that's natural for all players but hopefully we can keep him for another contract. |

A Leinster lad playing in Munster? Never. Stay with us he'll be a better player for it.

We can't keep our own local lads, let alone an Irishman. He'll be gone....

We are making precious little effort to retain in fairness.
Exercising the second year of a 'project player' level contract after such a fine season is hardly going to be the catalyst to keep him with us. We gave the guy a chance to resurrect his career, it worked a treat, he is pretty appreciative of that. The Irish system let him down. Sometimes I think the vision of what a winning team needs stretches as far as the next salary pay day. He should have been our number 1 retention target with a 3 year deal. And, yes, we've exercised that option for a further year. Now that he's signed, now you can talk to him about extending further. I mean, of course we'd take up the option we'd built into his contract, not throw a different 3-year deal on the table instead - which opens up the market to his agent. So mission retained: accomplished.

Would be very sad to lose him.
Shows what an effective overseas player policy can do for retaining talent. If he was Welsh playing in Ireland, he Would have been called into the Welsh summer squad, like Dolman, Francis etc. No chance of Ireland doing that because they know that the long-term prize of getting him to play domestically is far greater. |
