We need an elite-level power player to come into the backrow as a difference-maker in Europe and big league and play-off games.

We will have Shingler, Boyde, McLeod and somehow even Cubby available all year round in the backrow. Season-long availability is not the key requirement here.

Mike you have hit the nail on the head there - an elite level power player who makes a difference in Europe. That is not Moriarty on the evidence of the last two seasons unless I have missed something.

Respect your opinion, but I think you must have, yes.

As I respect yours. It may well be that we watch him perform for the Dragons for the next couple of years before we lure him west. Just hope there is nothing dodgy going on financially. If he has decided that the vision offered by Jackman beats the one presented by Pivac then that is fair enough. If he has been given a financial incentive by the WRU then the other 3 regions need to make the strongest possible protest.

I've just put a link of his highlights from this year above. Check it out. This is exactly the player we need.

Could it be after having 15 players called up for international duty and a couple of NWQ spots come available we have may be cooled our interest in Moriarty in order that the squad doesn't become even more top heavy with welsh internationals? It might of decided Barclays fate as well. Just a theory....

If thats the highlight reel I must say I am not that impressed - his best carry was against a woeful Italian team, he pushed off Wade not the first to do that over the years & late tackled Farrell. Yes he's a good tackler but we need an uncompromising carrier in heavy traffic & nothing in that reel suggests to me he's the man. Let me put it this way Mike we could compile a similar clip for Picamoles that would be far more impressive for what we need.

I really don't want to be over critical of Ross because I think he is a fine 6. He is competing, in my opinion, with Warburton, Lydiate & Shingler for the Welsh 6 spot. I would never drop Shingler for him in our team and I just don't think he's ever going to be an 8.

We are not going to get an elite level carrying tank like Picamoles. Those guys are earning £500k plus in France and England. If you want a player in that mould, we would have to take a punt on a raw and unproven South Sea Islander in all likelihood.

For our game, Moriarty offers the perfect blend of power and mobility IMO.

I can’t agree with some of the comments here, look at the way the game is going and you’ll see that the 8 of the last decade is on its way out to be replaced by faster, more skilful players.
Moriarty is direct, fast and hits good angles. He’s very similar to CJ Stander in my eyes albeit a few years behind in development.
If he came I think he’d be one of the best 8s in the league, especially behind our first choice front 5.

Only just learned of Cummins and Moriarty and to me both items of news are good news for us so long as we recruit an injury free, ball carrying 8 (or two) instead of Moriarty (who would anyway be serving Wales much of the time if he recovers completely from his collision induced injuries).

Seems a great signing Cummins also plays 6,with regards Moriarty those reoccurring back problems huge worry with one so young its a disgrace though if the WRU have outbid us and sent him to a long term failure of a region, common have not won a league game on the road for nearly 2 years

Agree with Mike and yourself. If his fitness wasn’t an issue he’s exactly the type of player to replace Barclay. Big barrelling 8’s crashing through heavy traffic are the past. Smart players avoid the traffic
