Very interesting to read Pivac's assessment of Samson at this pre-seasons training. He is giving all the club's loose heads a torrid time in training & wants as much game time as possible starting against Bristol. Pivac went on to explain that it has taken until now for Samson's calf muscles to get back to full size/strength since his achilles issue. The change in his effectiveness at scrum time is very noticeable. Good news all round.

Yes, I always thought he was a far stronger scrummager than he showed last year and is a much better prop in all aspects than Tomas Francis.

Saw him at Llandovery at the weekend and he's looking quite trim.

I was very worried for his future at one point last season. He looked broken beyond repair. Nice to hear these positive reports.

He had a very strong end to the season in all fairness. For example, he was outstanding in the semi win v Leinster
I still wake up late at night and think of what might have been when tim stimpson hit that jammy penalty1

With 2 light locks and 7 forwards, he and Rob were very strong.  That's a pretty good front row we have now.Big smile

Good to see him getting better again.  LH has been an especially major concern for Wales since Adam Jones retired.

Great news for all concerned. Like I said in another thread- he's a valuable asset. He's an international for the next 10 years if managed right, in one of the hardest positions in rugby, and best of all he's local.

I hope Samson has a great season, back to his very best.  I've always worried about the virtually endless season internationals have to go through, no proper pre-season or down time. Don't think that's good for any sportsperson. There shouldn't have been autumn internationals straight after the world Cup or even a summer tour at the end of the season.  Money is being put ahead of player welfare.    I fully expect Samson and Jake to tear things up this season.  Bring it on.

He may have performed well, but that was despite him feeling at breaking point physically.

If he is now fully fit, then we will see some player.
