Mrs EO got out of her car and said that just pre/post 1800 on Radio 4 Tuesday 3/10/17, there was a story of a guy walking in the wilds of Australia. The narrator was making a contrast between people being more likely to have narrow minds when living in cities and broader minds when living in the countryside, especially if they’d travelled a bit.

He came across a man of South Sea Island Heritage and struck up a conversation.

The man underlined his point strongly. It turned out he used to play professional rugby and had spent a significant spell in Wales, living in and playing for Llanelli. He loved the people, the environment and the whole of his time there.

He was so taken with the entire experience that he wanted to embed it in his family forever. He decided the best way of doing this was to name his son after the place where he scored his first try for the club.

There is someone walking around with a Christian name of Abertillery.

Mrs EO didn’t catch the player’s name and I’ve yet to track it down on iplayer.

Anyone know who this ex-player is? And has the story been aired before?

Sounds as if it might be someone who toured and played in Llanelli not necessarily for Llanelli

haha! How funny... that would be full name: Abertillery Llanelli Fa'amasino. Son of the legendary Tupo Fa'amasino. A few boys back in Samoa/NZ have names of welsh places from happy touring memories.
