My patch was interesting...a few challenges presented themselves..
-Severe outbreak of the plaque in Madagascar...evacuate the team. -Un-rest in a town on the road to our factory in Ethiopia blocked the highway...police go in and shoot it up a bit...nice. All on lockdown. Restricted travel. -Fatal drive by shooting of my kids' school headmistress (an Australian lady) just down the road from us here in Nairobi yesterday morning. -Second round of (nonsensical) elections in Kenya on 26th...the first one over-turned in August by the loser due to some technical failings ( result not affected), he than withdraws from the second ballot meaning we have an election with just one candidate standing...propensity for a massive kick off of un-rest next week....evacuated the family. -State of emergency re-installed in Egypt after more attacks in the Coptic Christian minority...avoid places of worship and any gatherings. -CIA briefing at 11am today. ( Going to DefCon 5 ) On the bright side the Scarlets game is on live tonight on the box, and I've got a slab of beer in the fridge. What Scarlet Fever gave/gives me is a lightly fictionalized, and occasionally embellished, rendition of life well outside of that plate full of bollox above. In other words, sanctuary! |

perfect post for my days...
3 days ago a special cops force arrived at my office and and they notified to my and all my collegues an act of conclusion investigations where they accuse us for the crime ideological false in the management of an office software. We used that software for register our daily jobs, but we didn t know that our office leaders used the data for their purposes for reaching money at the end of the year...of course we no money of this... Investigators accused us to have helped them in their criminal intent, of course not true...almost surely we will undergo a process and have to find a lawyer, a good lawyer cause of the expected penalty is between 3 or 10 years of imprisonment and there could be difficoult follow Scarlets....joke a part, it s not a good situation for me and my career and I little bit worried but sure I didnt nothing of wrong, specially I worked here only from 3 months..... Yes, Scarlet fever is an angle of distraction from strange and vortex normal life and tonight hope we can win!!!

Wil that summary evokes stark memories of my life living & working in the copperbelt in Zambia during the 70's. A beautiful country torn apart by the border changes in Rhodesia now Zimbabwe & armed insurgents running around uncontrolled. Stay safe.

Crap, indeed.... my severe cold/cough/sore throat not exactly comparable with the trials faced by some of you, though it has cost me the trip to Llanelli - really not up to a 4h round trip. The one good bit of news is that my specialist (yesterday) cleared me of a return of leukaemia for another 6 months - you sort of live 6 months at a time! 5 years' remission and counting, now - stats predicted 3-5 years median survival on treatment, so can't be bad...
It's been a terrible 12 months or so for friends and family, though... daughter 2 lost a good friend, and bestie's brother, to an aneurism at 28... then more recently, a colleague who hanged himself my best friend lost both sisters to cancer in a 4 week period around last Christmas - his mother then died in August one of my first cousin's sons committed suicide my wife's only first cousin - more like a big brother - died suddenly of an aneurism following cancer treatment - just back from the funeral a week ago; two sisters (one of which is her bestie, the other a very good friend) both being treated for cancer... bestie's husband just diagnosed with melanoma in eye - - 50% chance treatment will blind that eye, plus a high risk the melanoma will spread... a year ago, the husband of another good friend of hers - who was mentally unstable - got drunk, drove like a loony down a dual carriageway, and killed himself plus two others in another car. I don't know what it is, but it feels as if these disasters come in waves - around 8 years ago, I went to 6 funerals in 18 months, including Dad, his brother and the brother's son (my only male first cousin) but it was quiet then up until a year ago. As Shakespeare said, “When sorrows come, they come not single spies. But in battalions!”It is a mighty relief to be able to forget all these events for a while, and focus on the rugby. |

Good news on the leukaemia front, all the best going forward.
If someone top's your horror story of a year in a 'Four Yorkshiremen' type way, I'm logging off! Life can be very cruel, enjoy the good times everyone.

Diolch! What all this makes me feel is how important it is to make the most of the time we've got... life is for living, not for worrying about what might happen. Let's enjoy it, while we can.

TBH, it was a lot worse for friends and family, my wife in particular... the unfortunate 'victims and/or survivors' are all people I know, some better than others, but I wasn't as close to most of them as my wife... I do mean it, though, about living for the moment, as having an illness which could 'potentially' shorten your life does focus the mind rather well! (The one deceased person I knew well, and liked, was my wife's cousin - a great guy.) You'd think that all of this would lead to some sort of 'wisdom', but I have to admit that my bad cold has left me especially grumpy and short-tempered these last few days... so apologies to any I may have offended! I think that the vulnerability that comes with illness makes one short tempered and over-inclined to react and shoot from the hip.
