A few more details have been announced.

* PRO14 matches will be played on Friday and Saturday from next season, with no plans for Sunday games;

* There will be two or three fixtures on a Friday evening and then either four or five on a Saturday;

* There will be a weekly highlights show, but it is yet to be confirmed which channel that will be shown on.

* Overall competition income for the Welsh sides - from TV and sponsorship - will rise to more than £2m per region next season, compared with less than £1m per side two years ago;

* That means the Welsh regions will be receiving twice the money from PRO14 that they do from EPCR.

The agreement with S4C has not yet been finalised, but they look set to show a live game involving a Welsh region most weeks of the season.

I think we should have an 'S4C Chwaraeon' channel showing live sports in the Welsh language like a Welsh language Sky Sports Channel.

Am I being cruel in suggesting we have a new thread listing all rygbi11's stupid comments?

Coverage available in HD through Sky/Virgin

I'm just not seeing that. Not for Premier Sports on Virgin.

Says Freesport will be available through HD on Virgin upgrading over the Summer, but agree it doesn't say that about Premier Stern Smile

It's quite a bold statement that, if not backed up, really questions the credibility of the proposals:

<span style="color: rgb20, 20, 20; font-family: " Sans", sans-serif;">"For the first-time ever it also allows for every game in the Guinness PRO14 to be broadcast live and in High Definition"</span>
<span style="color: rgb20, 20, 20; font-family: " Sans", sans-serif;">
</span>
Broadcasting every game live and in HD means they will have to sort out the Virgin element. I know they've had a HD presence on Sky for 5 years or so I have no idea why they've never introduced it on Virgin, but if they're having an all out push on the Pro14 they'll have to introduce a new channel (and not just Freesports) for the UK.

Technically the statement is right though. Every game will be in HD either on skytv or through their app.

They just forgot to mention that you can't get it in HD if your a cable tv customer.

I won't be subscribing.

"Every game available on HD! But not if you're a Virgin customer, you second class peasant"

Sky Sports costs me £15 a month, if I get to see all of our games in HD, I'll cancel that an go Premier Sports for a tenner. But if the quality is akin to watching the 1984 Sarajevo winter Olympics on a black and white portable TV in an underground bunker (i.e. SD) I'm not interested.

On their Facebook page it says it’ll all be in HD by the time the season begins and Virgin will have the free channel.

Eir sports have had the same deal plus European games.

I've never had Sky, partly because they pull all sort of stunts like splitting the 'good stuff' across several channels and make you pay for each one - which is ridiculously expensive - but mainly because Murdoch is a sort of Bond villain, interfering in politics and manipulating governments to ensure his companies can increase their profits. (I've always assumed that the Elliot Carver character portrayed by Jonathan Pryce in scenery-chewing mode in 'Tomorrow never dies' was meant as a parody of Murdoch!)

Now, if Premier is offering all pro-14 games for £100 a season, that's something I might well sign up for - does anyone know how it will be 'delivered', though? Set-top box? Streaming? I'll decide, once the technical details become clearer.

Take it you dont use netflix eithet

No - what's that?

I assume that's a joke, but it's gone way over my head!

The PRO14 have today announced that RDA have been appointed to sell the TV rights to the championship in all but the host countries (UK, Ireland, Italy and South Africa) for the next 3 seasons.

RDA already handle TV rights for the Heineken Champions Cup, European Challenge Cup, Premiership Rugby, Betfred Super League and the RFL International Test Series, so they should know the global rugby market well!

With just 4 main TV distributors (Premier Sport in UK, eir sport in Ireland, Super Sports in S Africa + RDA for the rest of the world - not sure of the latest situation in Italy?), PRO14 have consolidated the revenue & management of TV rights, which should maximise their potential income & allow them to focus on other areas of commercial development.

Look, feel and tone of the Premier Sport/Free Sport platform will be really interesting - they're pushing a lot of positive messages at the moment - world-leading try-scoring stats, quickest rucks, fewest TMO referrals(!), etc. - trying to position it as a leading global product. Good on 'em. Thumbs Up

Interview with PRO14's Martin Anayi by Simon Thomas today.

Some interesting quotes:

Originally posted by Martin Anayi Martin Anayi wrote:

We had a record crowd for the final, while attendances overall were up 10-11 per cent and the top eight teams in the league were up by 15 per cent.

The figures for the Scarlets were even better again.

For them to have an average of 10,000 people coming to games is a serious achievement when you consider they are a very small area. People don’t give them enough credit.

Originally posted by Martin Anayi Martin Anayi wrote:

We have got to grow the league in a way that is sustainable and workable. I think the best number for our competition is 16. Strange as it may sound, that will actually allow us to play less rugby.

...

We do believe we need wherever possible to move away from international weekends and play slightly less rugby overall.

That way we have fewer matches where the star names are absent and we reduce the load on players generally.

Tadhg Beirne played 36 matches last season. He is at the peak of his game, but how long can he stay at the peak if he keeps on playing that much.

On TV rights...
Originally posted by Martin Anayi Martin Anayi wrote:

The bid which was accepted was significantly more than the next best offer. We worked hard for that in the process and we are very happy with it. It puts us in a great position to kick on as a competiton.

It’s an amazing opportunity for rugby fans on both sides of the Irish Sea to follow every single game. That has never been done before in our league and not in England either. People want to watch all of their team’s games, home and away, and now they can on one channel.

On Premier Sport...
Originally posted by Martin Anayi Martin Anayi wrote:

They are pretty advanced in terms of getting presenters and pundits on board. It’s exciting to see how the league is going to be covered and portrayed by them.

I think it will give fans rugby content at a different level. The investment in production, punditry, marketing and promotion has gone up. We are working with them, looking at innovation and how we freshen things up.

You will have a highlights package and a weekly magazine show, with plenty of colour content. It’s just about giving our competition a lot more depth. We will hear from a lot more players and coaches and it’s chance to tell the positive stories to a wider public.

We are looking at how we are going to roll it all out now. It’s an opportunity for our clubs to be more involved.

Schedule likely to be 2-3 games on a Friday night with 3-4 on Saturday:
Originally posted by Martin Anayi Martin Anayi wrote:

We are working on finalising the schedules at the moment. We are talking to the clubs to see what works for them in terms of kick-off times and there’s a broadcasters meeting this week. I think people will be happy with what we come up with.

Anything on S4C?
Originally posted by Martin Anayi Martin Anayi wrote:

There will be at least one game a week on free to air. There will be more information to follow on that relatively soon.

Why aren't the fixtures out yet? (Eng Prem games are announced 6/7)
Originally posted by Martin Anayi Martin Anayi wrote:

It’s an incredibly complex process. It’s completely different to the English or French leagues where all the teams are in the same country and it’s a simple home and away format.

We’ve got 14 different teams from five countries. We’ve got cross border trips and flights to and from South Africa. We also have to wait for the football fixtures because there are a number of joint venues.

But we are pretty close to getting the fixtures finalised.

On conferences...
Originally posted by Martin Anayi Martin Anayi wrote:

It will be the same two conferences, with teams playing the other sides in their section home and away and then teams from the other conference either home or away. The one change is we will reverse the cross-conference fixtures.

Everybody who had 10 home games last season will have 11 this time around, to give that equity. And if you only play a team once and were away to them last season, you will be at home this time around.

So we will leave the conferences as they are for this coming season. That gives us stability and a chance to build rivalries within those conferences.

We will look at that competition again after next season and maybe have a rejig then.

What about the officiating?
Originally posted by Martin Anayi Martin Anayi wrote:

There is big news coming up in terms of the professionalism of referees. There’s been a lot of work done off season. Our Elite Referee Manager Greg Garner has done an amazing amount of work.

We are basically creating a panel of elite referees. We are effectively paying for the refs, which is what happening in England and France. It just gives us that high performance.

We are going to see a positive change and we are really happy about that.

Lots of good stuff - PRO14 is going the right way, even if it does have lots of commercial ground to make up with the French & English leagues.

From Chris's CRYS16 AGM tweets last night, quoting PRW's Mark Davies:

Realise you've copied and pasted that Fscarlet but surely they mean:
- Guinness PRO14 Final Series: Delayed coverage if Welsh region NOT involved
- Guinness PRO14 Final: Live coverage if Welsh region involved

No the Final series & the Final are being treated as 2 separate 'events'.

So if a region is the quarters or semis they won't have live coverage?
