We seem very enthused by Carwyn, albeit the scope of the whole Exiles programme is exasperating for many. Whilst Carwyn is a talent, and some unit, the person with most to lose is Sam Williams (who captained Wales Under 16s the season before last and is a better carrier imo), who has been passed over for the 6N squad and this tour after an outstanding last RAG season. Carwyn has two more seasons at U18s though, so maybe Sam will get a fair crack of the whip this coming season. Both are obviously very decent prospects, and Sam should captain the team this season from what I have seen of him Roberts and Knott are both excellent players, but are in a position where we don't seem to struggle with talent. I would expect to see some involvement with Under 23s this season, as both are out of U18s I believe. Harri Doel is an exceptional line breaker, blistering acceleration. Physicality might be his only issue and haven't seen much of his kicking game. But from a very tidy family and one to watch. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up on 7s circuit for a while. No other stand outs in my opinion, one or two fairly lucky to be involved in truth.

Next game is England U18, also to be shown live online by S4C tomorrow at 13:30. Lots of kids and parents now on holiday - would have thought there would be a case for showing the boys against the old enemy on t.v.?

I appreciate the Scarlets have a lot of talented youngsters in the back row but it was a huge surprise when Jac was announced as new signing by Aberavon . |

Good showing from the lads in the first half but England blew 3 golden opportunities in the 2nd half and will be kicking themselves. Knott & Doel look decent prospects and Jac Price is a handful. Carwyn, for all his physical attributes, is not quite there yet with his understanding of how to use it. He fell off at least 6 tackles in the time he was on the field. No doubt this is something the academy will iron out. Welsh scrum, at least in the first half, were very powerful with Callum Williams showing up well.
Outside of the Scarlets I liked the look of Owen at 12, Costelow at 10 & hooker Lewis is all action.

I should never under estimate the worldwide dispersion of the scarlet brand. |
