Cubby will see a specialist to assess the extent of his knee injury.

Foxy is also still out, as are Rob Evans (shoulder) and Josh Macleod (couple more weeks), but Patch should be fit to play if he gets through training today, and Uzair Cassiem is also back in full training and available for Connacht.

A trip to Galway in the wind and rain is not a great prosprect. Id go safest team possible:

15. Halfpenny
14. Prydie
13. Fonotia
12. Parkes
11. McNicholl
10. Patch
9. Cawdor
8. Blade
7. Davis
6. Kennedy
5. Cummins
4. Ball
3. Kruger
2. Ken
1. Wyn

16. Elias
17. Price
18. Samson
19. Bullbring
20. Rawlins
21. SHC
22. Asquith
23. Foxy

Side based on Dan Jones, Cubby, Boyde, Macleod all still unavailable.

Hopefully then v Kings we can put out something like:
15. Clayton
14. McNicholl
13. Foxy
12. Asquith
11. Steff Evs
10. Patch
9. SHC
8. Macleod
7. Davis
6. Kennedy
5. Bullbring
4. Rawlins
3. Kruger
2. Elias
1. Wyn
16. Marc Jones
17. Phil Price
18. Samson
19. Tom Price
20. Boyde
21. Hardy
22. Angus
23. Steff Hughes
Wouldnt be surprised to see players like Tomi Lewis, Ryan Conbeer etc being involved in this one though.

CLayton hasn't appeared due to the coaching staff asking him to work on his conditioning....

"There is an adjustment period for Clayton and we are asking him to work on his conditioning," said Pivac.

"He has been asked to do a bit of extra work just to sharpen up on his match fitness.

"We do things a bit differently from the Cheetahs and expectation on the players is to be in a certain shape and Clayton has a bit of work to do in that area.

"He is doing that and is not far off making his return."

bit worrying about cubby that. just hope its nothing serious as we are pretty short at 7 with wil and josh also injured. dan davis is huge prospect but if the others are out for a while he will be playing some massive games

Bit strange comment regarding Clayton. Surely he should have achieved required fitness levels during pre-season? Think we should give Blade some rest over the next two games. If Rawlins deemed fit enough then our back row four for Connacht could be Kennedy, Casseim & Davis with Rawlins on the bench. Again McLoud could take over from Davis against Kings which would give Blade a couple of weeks off to get ready for Ospreys, Racing & Tigers.

Some interesting selections ahead with Asquith's form demanding selection in my view; Phil Price is also pushing both Wyn & Rob very hard for a place in our best 23.

I 'picked' Blade for Saturday, but if Cassiem is fit and ready it would be a chance to rest him. The team needs to be strong enough to secure a win, though... can Cassiem be fully match fit?

Perhaps it is more the differences in the 2 sides...

Exactly. The same was said for Chris Halaufia who ended up not even playing for us. Sounds like there is a more to this, which hopefully will sort itself out quite quickly.

Clearly he was deemed fit enough for the Ulster game so if he's lost fitness since then its maybe a lifestyle thing. No hiding places for professional athletes. watch this space!!!!

Or was he started against Ulster knowing his fitness was not 100% BUT there wasn't much option due to the injury list

Apparently the South African sides aren't the fittest at all. The Ospreys have also had problems with Tom Botha, he's just lucky they have a lot of injuries in his position. All the Cheetahs wanted Botha to do was scrummage they weren't concerned with how little he did around the field. Evidently the Scarlets environment is far more professional and it's taken Clayton a bit of time to adjust to that.

Hopefully that's the only issue. I haven't heard anything negative about him coming from people who work there, and he always comes across like a tidy bloke. Just seems strange he's had a full preseason and still quite now there yet. Suppose it's better to take it at face value at this stage.

Thanks for that - helps explain it. Casseim may be a different case as he did play for the Boks so may have a better understanding of what is required.

Seems like fitness is lower down the priority list in SA than Wales.

If he was in low shape coming here, a few pre season weeks would not be enough to get him up to speed with the rest of the squad.

He seemed fit enough against us last season and he is no porker that's for sure! However, its good that its being addressed and he is responding
