Liam to me has become a bit of a defensive liability, Adams is a good call. The try he scored against Argentina was top drawer. Gatland, to be fair, has been true to his word. Players who did well in the summer are being given another chance - Lewis, Smith, Beard & Adams. The real test of course will come when he selects his team for the 1st 6 nations game. Then we will find out who is in pole position.

I'm a little surprised that Adams - a good player - is preferred to Liam (a proven 'test-match animal'). He'll be marking Folau - is Adams reckoned to be safer in defence than Liam? Hard to see the logic otherwise.
I'd have kept Lewis rather than Francis, and there wasn't much between Smith and Rob Evans. Beard looks like the future Wales second row, so maybe that's why he's been given a shot before Hill - he did very well in the summer, TBF.

Some good players in the Australia side yes, but I think that experienced Wales side really should be looking to win this one. This is a test of Gatland's tactics as well as selection.

Word is that Adams gets in ahead of Liam. I think Liam's defensive frailties are catching up with him. Both Dillon Lewis and Beard are excellent long term prospects and could be given plenty of minutes this Autumn. The Lydiate/Jenkins call is interesting. Horses for courses I would go with Jenkins to combat Hooper/Pocock.
Both Rhys and Samson are being given more time to recover so I would stick with Anscombe & Lewis to start. Personally I would start Watkins ahead of Parkes. My team :- Leigh, Adams, Foxy, Watkins, George, Anscombe, Cawdor Rob, Ken, Dillon, Beard, AWJ, Jenkins, Tips, Moriarty. Bench : Wyn, Dee, Francis, Jake, Lydiate, Tomos, Biggar, Liam.

Gatland has long standing form for dis-regarding players that could not join the camp from Day 1...to be precise with that, that's when there are credible alternatives of course.

Not much in it... EJ is just back from injury, and Lydiate was top tackler and pretty physical v Scotland, which is why I'd stick with him as a starter.

I'd think twice before picking Lydiate against the Wallabies who will have Pocock and Hooper to compete against at the breakdown. Perhaps Elis Jenkins would give us a better chance of competing.
