Too much of the old boy network and "who you know" in Wales. And we criticise old Etonian/elite private school Oxford PPE dominance in Westminster... It all makes social networking and personal politics shall we say the main skillset for advancement rather than actual ability or ideas. But then what's new? Seems this same issue appears in both capitalist and socialist parties and is unavoidable. But then humans are social animals and political systems are actually large scale group invested delusions so maybe this is as it should be.

On Wednesday I attended the protest against the closure of the A&E dept of the ludicrously named Royal Glam Hospital in Llantrisant. Hundreds came to the demonstration outside the Sennedd, many from the Rhondda, and a string of impassioned speakers echoed the outrage felt by the protestors and the realisation that this act would result in more deaths due to the extra time taken and extra pressure on the surviving A&E s at Bridgend, Merthyr and Cardiff.
Among the speakers was Chris Bryant, the Labour mp for the Rhondda who sounded genuine enough until you remember that he and his careerist, Blairite, fellow Labour mps did their best to make sure that the only labour leader to demand an end to austerity as not elected. Bryant and his ilk like Nia Griffiths only seem impassioned about identity politics, promoting LGBT rights or boosting Israel. They seem to have forgotten that their blindly Labour-voting constituents are more almost always more concerned with the deterioration of living conditions in their communities. They were at the forefront of the industrial revolution and the horrendous capitalist exploitation which resulted preceeded their current state, following the abandonment of their communities when their exploiters found higher profits elsewhere. The new breed of Labour politician seem to echo the media in not wanting to criticise or even discuss what led to our present condition, let alone want to fight the system that caused it. Unfortunately the labour assembly members take their lead from the Labour and prefer the quiet deterioration of their communities and a quiet life from the media rather than to stand up and be demonised as Corbyn was. |

I'd say it was the other way around, corbyn and his cult seemed to be obsessed with Palestine, Britain's colonial past and appeasing every nutty fringe group in the uk rather than listening to what normal every day folk were concerned about it;s why labour got wiped out under his leadership including in the labour heartlands you describe , while blair like him or not managed to win 3 general elections I know that this was the first time I didn't vote labour

This country is absolutely desperate for labour to sort its act out that represents the hard working masses and offer a credible alternative to the eton mob. Sadly that appears light years away.

There was £114 million the WAG spent on the m4 relief road that was cancelled. Drakeford claims the money isnt lost as the findings will be used to find other solutions. Boris used this as an excuse when batting away questions on wales being ignored by hs2. The end result is the welsh get screwed over big time and the 2 so called leaders blame each other. it is pathetic.

RR1992 - I don't know what papers/tv stations you get your information from but I certainly saw zero discussion of Palestine in the mainstream media. What I saw endlessly was the demonization of Corbyn and Labour with accusations of racism and antisemitism always unaccompanied by any evidence because they had none. They were purposely confusing support for Palestine with hatred of Jews.
Corbyn made a big mistake to offer another Brexit referendum to appease the Blairite remainers like Bryant and Griffiths and this must have pissed off a hell of a lot of traditional Labour supporters who still believe that they were living in a democracy. Even then, and against the constant attacks of the media Corbyn's Labour still managed to win a higher % of the vote than 4 other recent election results by Kinnock* and Milliband. *Now rewarded as Lord Kinnock, by the establishment, for his efforts in moving the party to the right and banishing those campaigning for socialism. But still he couldn't get elected even though leading in the polls- maybe due to the Sun's famous "Lights out" front page warning against a Labour victory. |

Note that much of the media is painting Cummings as the person making all the decisions, nicely creating a future scapegoat for Boris . While I'm sure he has influence, potentially enormous yes, perhaps the elected prime minister also deserves some scrutiny. I wouldn't go near any buses if I were Cummings, that's for sure.
And also is he serious about wanting to build a bridge between NI and Scotland? Sounds a bit daft really but I'm not an engineer.

Difficult to argue with the last posts of Blackwood Scarlet and RR1972 because they are just the sort of comments the Sun is famous for and lacking any evidence or reasoning. Still I'm sure the rest of the kids in the playground are impressed. Fume on guys.

Aber-fan. As someone who was convinced that the case against Roger Stone somehow proves that Trump's election was due to "Russian collusion" perhaps you'd like to have a look at the following article-

I'm confused, the Conservatives boasted about low unemployment statistics before the election to increase their chances yet now Priti Patel justifies stricter immigration criteria by saying 8 million people are "economically inactive" and so can plug any resultant labour shortages.
I am not alone in calling BS. In addition to the laughable incompatibility of these two things, I believe Priti Patel has just insulted 25% of the UK's workforce by describing them as "economically inactive". Unless she just means they don't work in economics? Because that could well be true and we really do need more in the City in the UK because that has never gone wrong. I look forwards to the Bugle's take on this this week. The politicians are really making it too easy for comedians you know.

Looking into it in more detail, the inactive are students (27%), long-term sick (26%) and those caring for family members (22%) along with already retired [before 65] (13%).
Of course all those Oxbridge students will be delighted Priti thinks so highly of their futures, not to mention getting those already retired back into work. And it's funny how this didn't come up in their unemployment stats then isn't it? I think we can see that she does not know what the [beep] she is talking about. Just as well she's not home secretary or something. PS Before there is a response, sure, she could have legitimately said a certain number would have been made up of students or whatever to replace approximately n jobs that will be lost due to these new regulations. Fine, that's politics. But she didn't. She didn't make any logical statement indicating she has a plan or strategy whatsoever, she has just quoted a misleading number that shows she has not understood - or possibly not even read - her brief. Considering she is the home secretary and was going on tour specifically to present her plan on the decision, THIS is what I am criticising.

Also by the way, even if I don't agree with it in general, the stated numbers actually seem more reasonable. Or not as bad as they could be shall I say as I think 30k was being discussed earlier:
From the document outline immigration policy: "Anyone wanting to come to the UK to work must have a job offer with a salary threshold of £25,600 β though a salary βfloorβ of £20,480 will be acceptable in special cases where there might be a shortage, such as in nursing." |
