I don't see why Sam Davies would leave personally after securing the starting 10 spot for them. Apart from more money and playing for a way more lucrative side, naturally.

I would welcome him back for us. For him it’s either us or the Dragons in Wales. OR larger wages in England but who would be after him? |

No thanks, cracking player but we need someone whose confidence will not waiver when the chips are down. Sam Davies has a cool head and would be a better acquisition imo

With respect, I dont think that’s a fair criticism of Priestland.
All 10s go through bad patches, from Jonny Sexton to Sam Davies, Rhys was no exception. He had what must’ve felt like the whole country on his back when he had a bad run of form. He’s now an older, more experienced player whose been through that ringer and come out the other side - now showing, at times, he’s one of the best fly halves in England. Such a skilful player shouldn’t be overlooked because Gatland continued to pick him when he was in bad form. Undervalued moneyball signing imo. |

I’d love to see Rhys back here.
Fits our style, would be a very good back up, experienced player to mentor the younger players in the squad. |

Certainly not many (if any) in the Heineken, in a Welsh jersey (only beaten Tonga and Samoa as a starter) or in the Pro14. |

Rhys at 31 has lot of experience in big games with Bath and would be a great option IMO. We lack the combination of experience AND quality at 10 with only Patch at 10 and then Dan (who seems not to be in top favour) and this leaves us paper thin with quality at 10 with injuries/international absences. Rhys would get regular games at 10 and/or 15 evenmorso if Jonny decides to move and who knows about poor Leigh's future at present. I like Sam but why would he want to leave a starting 10 role to slip into a second spot say here behind say Patch? It would be like him and Dan Biggar at the Ospreys last season. Rhys may feel it will also bring closure on his career to spend 2-3 years here to end his career-who knows! Nice speculative thread though

Priestland or Owen Williams make much more sense than Sam Davies to me, both for club and player. Also if Priestland signs for us, or the Dragons for that matter he is all of a sudden eligible for the World Cup, and we know how much Gats loves a bit of the Priest!!

If we want to sign a lump second row we’re going to have to accept they’re not going to be perfect in other areas, because we don’t have the budget to sign the top top front 5 forwards, who have size, athleticism and great ball skills.
A punt signing could be Tevita Cavubati of Newcastle, formerly of Worcester and Ospreys. 120kg, athletic, but slightly injury prone and had disciplinary issues. Would be a perfect back up to Jake for less important games, though. There’s also Fa’Atiga Lemalu, Samoan international, ex Saracens and Auckland, currently playing on a short term contract with Yorkshire Carnegie. A top signing in my eyes would be Luke Romano, second row for the Crusaders. Mooar would know him, over 100 super rugby caps, 30 All Black caps but hasn’t held down a spot in recent years with Retallick, Barrett, Tuipulotu etc. Wouldn’t be cheap though. |

There are quite a few 6ft 7 18st×locks in nz that are not capped which may be on our new coach radar as well as 8S. I think this is our market mainly with maybe a marquee signing or two

I see that Bristol have signed Nathan Hughes for 3 seasons starting from next season. I’ve been watching him for a while now, long before he qualified for England on residency grounds. He’s a very big physical unit who regularly gets over the gain line, even from a standing start.
He would have answered some of our number 8 issues and would have played with and been coached by Stevo at Wasps. |
