I’m confident that we will start to come good towards the end of the season, timing it just right, with a bit of help with injuries. Hopefully we will go into the last 4-6 weeks of the pro14 season with a fairly clean bill of health and have too much for some of the teams around us. Ulster have a terrible run in so I believe we will either finish 2nd or 3rd behind Edinburgh, Leinster are on another level to us unfortunately. With regards to this seasons champions cup campaign, put it down to experience and the fact that we were there to aimed at (having reached the semifinals last year). We should have beaten Racing at PYS, we should have been out of sight before the referee allowed them back into the game and eventually win it. Leicester away was always going to be tough, even our great sides of the early 2000’s couldn’t get near them up there. Ulster was a horror show (both legs), despite playing really badly, we could have won at PYS and the away leg was then a dead rubber for us. |
Good positive post, great stuff!! |
Completely agree. Our injury struggles could well play in to our hands in that, because of injury/form Patch, Ball, Cubby, Steff, Blade, Shingler, SHC could all miss out on six nations selection but return to us just before or during the six nations. This would leave us with a very strong side during the six nations and hopefully on a bit of a run going in to the end of the season. Despite everything, I still believe on our day with a full team we are a match for anyone and can beat anyone on our day.
Remember the season we won the league, we really didn't hit out straps and start playing unstoppable rugby until March! We'll just do that again...it'll be fine

Pivac quoted today saying Halfpenny out for between another 3-5 weeks. Hoping to have Jake & Rhys available for the Leinster game. Foxy being rested next Saturday. Fully loaded we could beat most teams in the pro 14 apart from Leinster who, when fully loaded, are at a different level.

Injury update from scarlets via crys – halfpenny seen specialist and will not feature for 3-5 weeks but will train. Will be re-assessed in 3 weeks.
Jake ball and rhys patchell back in 2-3 weeks.
Wil boyde and blade thomson should be back over 6 nations. Josh macloed may be in contention for Saturday although they would prefer him to have extra 1-2 weeks training (as no one else is available!).
Foxey rested for Saturday, but steff evans back in 23

Will be interesting to see how many of our walking wounded are named in the six nations squad. With the strength in depth at international level I can see Halfpenny the only one being pressed straight back in to duty. Meaning going in to the Benneton game 16th Feb. Which is now a huge match we could have a line up of something like this...
Prydie, McNichol, Fonotia, Asquith, Steff, Patch, Hardy, Price, M Jones, Kruger, Ball, Cummins, Blade, Cubby, Josh
Evans, Hughes, Gardiner, Bulbring, Boyde, SHC, Jones, Steff Hughes
With the likes of Bloomtjies, Cassiem, Helps, Price, Rawlins, Dan Davies, Ed Kennedy, Nicholas backing up and Shingler returning not long after that.
