With preparations now well under way there is much speculation on the likely make up of the travelling 31. There is no doubt that some very high quality players will not make the plane such has been the improvement in depth over the past 18 months. Some big calls will be made, but there are only, in reality, a few positions which are up for grabs if in jury doesn't intervene.
Back 3 - 5 players predicted with one being up for grabs between Lane, Amos, Holmes & Steff. For me Amos' ability to play 15, 14, 13 & 11 will see him through. Centres - talk is 3 to travel. Straight shoot out between Watkins & Scott. For me Scotts ability to play equally well at 12 & 13 at International level should swing it for him. 10 - talk of two being taken with Parkes as emergency cover frightens me to death. Surely Gatland won't make the same mistake as Pivac. 9 - three are shoe ins. Loose head - again the 3 in possession look safe but Carre may well oust Wyn if he impresses in training as he is a big ball carrier who could cause damage off the bench. Hookers - 3 are pretty safe Tight heads - 3 are safe Locks - 4 to go with Bradley, Jake & Aaron being the possible 4 the choice Back row - 5 to go with Faletau hopefully fit that would leave 4 places with Tipuric & Moriarty certainties. Biggest selection dilemma here if Jenkins comes through it will only add to the headache. Watch this space as the summer progresses.

Have read a couple of places now that Cubby is really impressing the coaches during the camp so far & that Navidi may have a niggle & is being closely monitored.

Taulupe Faletau ruled out of RWC due to clavicle injury - desperate for him, and a blow to Wales front-line back row.
Broke his collarbone during Wales training and will need surgery. (He has my personal sympathy, as I went through the same thing 18 months ago [after a tag rugby injury ] and had to retire at my peak aged 49.)

Very sad news indeed, though not the blow it once would have been.

I suspect there will be more with the team playing these huge โ warm upโ games. Seems over the top to me playing so much Test rugby so close to the Tournament. ๐ค

I think it is down to the fact that the big 4 SH sides have their albeit shortened, Rugby Championship as warm ups. So the NH sides want to be up to speed so to speak.

I would imagine that this injury will free up the spot for Shingler.

It's not over the top, the sh teams coming in off a championship is what has given them the edge over the years. Had the world Cup taken place in April I'm pretty sure we'd have seen different results over the years. 4 good, hard games are just the ticket to get us up to speed.
