Proud of the effort and desire. Sadly, not quite good enough to get ahead of SA today.

Pivac has a hard act to follow.
What's going on?

That sums it up nicely. Gats selection of 2 tight heads caught up with him when Francis had to go off early. SA's forwards ground us down well & truly in scrum & lineout & just about deserved to win a pretty turgid game. England to win next Sunday handsomely.

Am I the only one who thinks South Africa have a decent chance next weekend? They won't get overpowered like the All Blacks did.
I still wake up late at night and think of what might have been when tim stimpson hit that jammy penalty1

Jerome is going to get headhunted by the Pro14 at this rate.

No SA player touched Moriarty - he made a mess of the restart catch. Du Toit, if anything, pulled out of the challenge. Leigh was fractionally late with their FB still in the air. Good refereeing all round.

We had two centres starting who were carrying knocks. What exactly did Watkins do wrong on the wing?

Thank you Angelo.

Will they fly anyone out to cover Tomas Francis and George North?

Don’t think the All Blacks is a side against which to put Wyn at TH. He’ll be too busy at LH, you’d imagine.

Can see Samson travelling tomorrow. Either that or we start with Carre & Lewis with Smith & Wyn on the bench. Bit of a pointless game really with the likely outcome being a hammering and more injuries.

Can't agree there - he was still in the air when he was flattened... one of a number of dubious calls by the ref, most of which went in SA's favour. They seemed to milk penalties by walking the scrum around, and blaming our boys.

Whatever - overall, SA just about deserved the win in a dull game - but for the occasion, I'd probably have turned the TV off!

Agree that Cawdor was subbed too early (given the shortage of back cover) - but as I want to have my cake and eat it, Biggar was also subbed too late... Patch showed how to kick penalties right into the corner, an knack Biggar seems to have lost - is he 100% after those head knocks? His form (apart from goal kicking) has been poor in the last two games.

Halfpenny did well overall (I know he missed one or two under pressure, but caught a lot of bombs safely)... we found a way down our left flank a couple of times first half, without finishing the job. Most players did OK - Wyn Jones was good, and Jake competed well against their big guys. The other Scarlets did OK, no more, though Parkes's head seemed to go at one point with two kicks charged down in the same move!

Did anyone else think AWJ looked tired? To me, it seemed like a bridge to far for the grand old man... he seemed a lot less lively than usual.

It's hard to see past England for the final - SA don't look to have the weapons to damage them.

As for NZ in the 3rd place play off - will Wales send for another TH prop? Francis looked unlikely to recover. Surely, they won't want to drop Wyn J to bench cover as a TH. Also, North looks out, but e do have some options out wide. The injuries, though - including Liam's - have come at a bad time for Wales.

Wales give there all and just came up short. Third and fourth what a ridiculous and pointless game, a five day turnaround and a load of battered bodies. So much for Player Welfare .

All those who started today will want to play against NZ.  The result however could be embarrassing for Wales. The tank is nearly empty and there is no way we can dominate their pack.  Their attack will shred us. 😨

my comments about Gatland flying over Lane and then not putting him on the bench, we not meant to be a slant at Watkins.  I thought that he played well when he came on.
My point was that he flew him over and then didn’t select him on the bench, meaning we didn’t have anything different to change the direction /style of play.

Our game plan is limited in thought and deed, but seen many a side off with that approach.

Not quite enough today though.

AWJ, Biggar, Parkes, Wainwright, Cawdor and Foxy were either not fully 100% fit, are just battle weary. Either way, with out them firing, we couldn’t command the territory we needed, and were susceptible to being pinged in our own half.

SA did deserve it, just.
