and fined £5 million for breaching the salary cap - hence the rumours about Sanjay's move, I expect.

Great news they’ve been cheating the system for a long time, a mass exodus of their players to ensue.
Owen Farrell limited was set up along with many other companies for just the players to be paid a fat wedge into their private pensions. This is good for rugby, ultimately their model is unsustainable and solely dependant on their owner.

Who will leave the club will be interesting...Rhys carre and liam williams will probably be up for grabs

just wonder if Saracens will get relegated??? they are on -26 now for this season. they could well still stay up if they get their stars back, someone has already said online that if they got their point total from last season they would have finished near mid table!
also if they win the European cup they will qualify again...so it could end up being £5million fine which nigel wray could well take.

Wow. I'm not surprised Saracens have breached the cap one bit, but maybe am surprised someone's done anything about it. There'll be an appeal no doubt.

Don't like posting a link to the Daily Mail but it was their journalism that facilitated this action, credit where it's due.

Dodgy. I doubt Saracens are the only club to have pulled something like this, either.

The trouble is they form such a large part of the England first XV, George, Vunipola's, Kruis, Itoge, Farrell, Daly etc they may not have those players back for a while. Plus Sanjay is out for the forseeable.

There in lies the problem. Weren't Exeter the only side in the AP to turn a profit?

I'd imagine that Liam is one of the allowed two marquee players and so outside the salary cap. What I would hope this stops is the poaching by English clubs of Welsh academy kids. That affects us in all sorts of ways, not least the players available for the prem clubs. At the very least it might stop youngsters like Carre leaving the blues after they have put all the effort and resources into developing him. Saracens did something similar with the Vunipolas a decade or so ago.

Surely  they can't keep players they have now otherwise they still be in breach of salary cap. A bun sale of Saracens players would be interesting.

She asks why i still can't answer. I guess its in the blood.

Depends how much they are over the cap. They are appealing it because they don't think they are over it at all - and their "co-investments" don't count as part of the cap.

Presumably Liam Williams is a marquee player and his wages don't count towards the cap.

Or is it a case that they stop the 'payments' to the players who have set up Limited Companies, which one can only assume was the main reason for the breach?

It's about time a strong message was sent and I'm sure that Saracens aren't the only club 'stretching' the rules.
What's going on?

I've always found it quite strange that teams in Wales, Ireland, Scotland etc can spend what they like. Yet teams in England have to have a ceiling amount that they have to spend under yet the English teams are seen as the big bad guys.

We couldn’t compete with their spending even at their salary cap level.

Other teams can though. Same squads for Europe too - which has no salary cap.
