Toulon aren’t messing about. They’ve picked their big guns.
It should be a good tussle. Shame it looks like it’s going to bucket down again.

I think we may well pay for playing Steff at 13 where he has less chance to attack with his clever kicking game. We will now probably go back to our mechanical/predictable passing game hoping that the ball reaches McNicholl without being turned over. Since Mooar's arrival Steff's kicking has added variety to our back play and instilled some uncertainty into the opposition's rush defence, never really knowing whether to go flat out for the interception/turnover or hold back for the chip/grubber. The pack is looking good though and I like the confidence shown in Jac Morgan. |

I share your worries about Steff at 13. Up against Savea who may not be the player he was but is still quick and big. They have a very formidable team with a huge pack, clever half backs and some gas out wide. A win tomorrow will be our best performance of the season. Pity weather forecast is poor as we really don't want to get into an arm wrestle with this lot.

Exactly the 23 I would have picked except for two bench places - Asquith rather than my pick of Baldwin - fair enough, as he's got more experience - and Morgan for Blade (injury obliges). Toulon have clearly picked a team to win, too, so it'll be a mighty struggle - given the forecast, it's crucial our forwards get a bit of an edge.

Two strong teams, European game, all to play for and the Scarlets hungry for a win. Whatever the weather forecast we can produce a stunning performance and make another slice of history for the Parc.
If anyone can create some magic and the customary Roller coaster game , it's the Scarlets.. Said it for years but to achieve greatness you have to do great things, reliably and consistently and we are on a bit of a roll with evident self confidence and that unique " swagger" of running rugby. The way we handled the ball and the passing and off loading in atrocious weather in games this season, has been All Black skill tenacity....brilliant stuff and I always had this thought the Scarlets play their best, with the sun on their backs, well that's gone. There used to be moments of the Scarlets in Europe where this cub led the way, in achieving firsts, there is still a mountain of climbing to achieve pinnacles in club rugby, but when the Scarlets play with zest and fire in their soul, they achieve memorable moments that last a lifetime. A lifetime of watching this team and the excitement level never wanes, ever and why?? Because of moments in time of anticipation and smiles , that once more the club from West Wales face another European foe, game on......cant wait.... |

Delighted with the team selection. What has pleased me among other things this season is the general acceptance that Steff Hughes’s local boy is a quality all round player . His coaches knew this from his U 20 days through to Pivac and now Mooar. He was made Captain in many occasions due to his on field judgment in the absence of Ken and he was even trialled as a 10 as the coaches valued him so much as a footballer. Fingers crossed his bad injuries are not to be repeated. The fact he is a nice guy helps as well! The other pleasure has been the resurrection of Steff Evans another local . Watching him being destroyed in Leinster under the high ball now seems a thing of the past so well done Steff for your persistence.

Formidable Toulon side - second row to centres very strong - Eztebeth, Messam, Ollivon, Serin, Belleau, Savea.
And now they've been cloning Taofifenuas! That said, we have 16 full internationals in our 23, plus former U20s Wales & a couple of future stars, and they're ones travelling to hostile territory. Should go into the game with confidence to take them on.

Let's hope the hostility is all to do with support for 'our' team, by all means pressure the ref, and let Toulon know if any of their players get involved in the 'dark arts'. One hopes that any travelling supporters will be shown a proper rugby welcome, though!

We need a vocal crowd from the get-go, the weather may dampen the numbers, but those in attendance need to be loud (I was going to say drunk, but that's a given). In terms of Toulon, they look brutal, but perhaps no more brutal than the last time they visited: Hugo Bonneval; JP Pietersen, Semi Radradra, Ma'a Nonu, Chris Ashton; Anthony Belleau, Alby Mathewson; Florian Fresia, Guilhem Guirado, Marcel Van Der Merwe, Juandre Kruger, Romain Taofifenua, Facundo Isa, aphael Lakafia, Duane Vermeulen We took them then, we'll take them tomorrow. Though we scored 3-tries last time around and we're struggling to achieve that this year. Could do with a Scott Williams in the backline, but hopefully we can grind an opportunistic win out again. Excited, nervous.
