Well some surprises the biggest being the inclusion of Wil Rowlands from Wasps. No places for Samson or Nicky Smith which is fair given their performances this season. Jonah Holmes' inclusion ahead of Steff Evans is debatable as is the selection of Webb ahead of Rhodri Williams. So barring last minute injuries we should be seeing Samson, Steff & Cubby for Edinburgh game along with Blade who has been left out of the Scottish squad.

can I say some strange call up?...Could be a way for exiles to invite them to come back in Wales?
Where are Samson, Jones, MacLeod?

I think Jonah's ability to cover 15 has seen him sneak in ahead of Steff GPR, though there will be the old 'Ah Pivac doesn't like Steff' comments. I don't think Samson has played as well as he has done in the past & if I am totally honest, it's only a lack of other options that see Rob being included in the squad.

From a Scarlets point of view it's good to know we will have the likes of Samson, Josh, Blade, Steff etc available during the tournament (barring injuries).

I understand Rob has been injured, but for me he's played far better than Wyn Jones, since Wyn has come back from international duty, he hasn't shown anything, maybe he's out on his feet after the World Cup.

I don't know, for me Rob has been struggling at scrum time. I've said it before on here, I'm not sure if it's down to the changes regarding the scrum but he has given away a few scrum penalties & looked mystified.

I'm really looking forward to seeing WillGriff John as I've not seen too much of the AP this season.

Yes he is an exciting selection. Big guy touching 20 stone and apparently converted from a number 8 only a few years ago. Excels in the loose & is famous within Sale ranks for cutting people in half with his destructive tackling & being very fit & durable.

According to his coach Diamond he has come on in leaps & bounds in his scrummaging & provides a very stable scrum against all Premiership opponents. He sounds like a perfect replacement for Werner when he decides to retire!!!!!

Thanks for that GPR, I tend to miss the highlights show so I appreciate that.

Thats no problem. Diamond also sang the praises of another Welsh tight head on their books - a youngster Jones who they signed from the french pro D. A raw talent who Diamond thought could go a long way.

Since the start of last season Nick Tompkins tops the charts for tries (15), metres (843) and defenders beaten (75) by centres in the AP.

Tompkins needs to shape up now to spare us the embarrassment of either Lane or North at 13

He looks the front runner for 13 as he  has played loads of rugby at 13. Dangerous runner and very solid defender. How serious is Wayne I wonder about adding some width to our game; what are the odds of this backline against Italy :-

15. Liam 14. Ress-Zammit 13. Tompkins 12. Owen 11. Adams 10 Biggar 9. Cawdor with Halfpenny, Williams & Evans on the bench.

I'm not sure I see Sanjay starting against Italy given he is on the way back from injury, but that is certainly a very exciting back line.

That answers my question in another thread about Tompkins - I know nothing about him, and had no idea he was/is WQ... he's not one of those ex-league brothers, is he? Thought that was a few years ago...
