Would like to see Bristol’s Harry Randall in the squad and capped. My guess is he will go for England as has a better chance of being first choice 9 there once Ben Youngs gets his 150th cap

The time for tinkering is done, I think Pivac will go with these things as his desirable starters ( with others in the squad)...
1- Wyn (Carre, Smith) 2- Ken (Elias, Parry) No Dee in the squad. 3- Francis ( Lee, Brown) No Lewis in the squad. 4- Ball (Taylor) 5- Hill (AWJ, Beard) No Seb Davies. 6- Lewis Hughes (Botham) Navidi and Moriarty to not make the squad. 7- Tips ( Macloed) No Cubby. 8- Faletau ( Wainwright) 9- Tomos Williams...( Cawdor and Hardy) Webb to not make the squad. 10- Jarrod Evans...(Biggar) Patch and Sheedy to not make the squad. 11- Reez-Zammett 12- Jonny W 13- George...(Halaholo and Foxy). No Watkin or Tompkins. 14- Adams (Holmes).Jonny Mac out. 15- Halfpenny (Sanjay, Lloyd) May chose another back row as cover so likely to be anyone who is fit really. Even Lydiate or Turnbull. |

Am I the only one to think that Botham junior is grossly over-rated or is our injury list so long that he qualifies by being the last mediocre player standing.

Some bold calls there Wil. Huge calls leaving out the likes of Navidi & Moriarty. Who is Taylor? No room for Rowlands either. I would certainly go along with most of those selections - question is will Pivac. Huge calls for him as this is the last chance saloon in all probability. Lose to Ireland and things start looking difficult.

Given what we've seen, very difficult to argue with any of that.

A very genuine, destructive flanker, putting them on the deck all day.Against us he was like a threshing machine.

Been thinking about the starting 23 against Ireland with the back drop of fitness issues currently. As I said earlier the 15 named above with Rowlands replacing the unlucky Taylor gets my support. Rumour is Ken is going to play some part against the Blues next week so lets pencil him in. Can't see Jake making it so I would go for Beard alongside Hill. Adams would be under extreme pressure from George if Foxy was anywhere near his best. Carre & Brown are a dilemma for me. I don't think Brown's scrummaging is now as bad as some make out but thats coming from a former pretty boy full back so what the hell do I know!!!!Carre seems to have gone backwards & can't even get a starting spot at the Blues which suggests to me he isn't ready. So my bench would be : Ryan, Smith, Brown, AWJ, Josh Mcloud, Cawdor, Biggar, Holmes. Is that a good enough team to beat Ireland - I doubt it as the perennial issue of speed of ball will hamper our efforts to play with width. The Irish will be all over us at the breakdown with strong set piece. I cannot help come back to the position at 7 - is it sacrilege to suggest that wonderful player Tipuric is a luxury we cannot afford at the moment? Would a real turnover specialist ( Navidi if he was fit) or our own Josh be a better bet to match the Irish at that all important facet of play? I put that out there, not as a concrete plan, but to inspire debate.

Botham more of a 6 than 7 for me. Agressive physical guy who Tackles well and good at breakdown not much of a footballer . A good foil for tupric. If naividi not fit i’d pick those two 6 and 7 , toby f 8 our josh or wainwright as bench option. If rob evans is fit he has to be ahead of carre who looks fat and unfit at the mo tbh. Looks like patchell out injured jarrod evans into squad now surely?

See Rhys Priestland been given special dispensation to be selected for the 6 nations squad as he is heading to the Blues next season.

I guess Wayne has more reason to justify selection of Rhys as he has two experienced 10's unavailable - Anscombe & Patchell. Add in the fact that Rhys is playing as well as ever at the moment. He is a 10 who can get a backline moving at pace.
