It's important to notice and celebrate small successes, particularly temporary ones, don't you think? Drovers lead the WP after Round 3, just ahead of Merthyr on points difference, after one home and two away games each. It's hard to see that lasting, but so far, so good. |

Llanelli have only scored 17 points, that's very alarming. averaging 5 points a game...

The introduction of the "A" side for Scarlets had a big drain on players for Llanelli side The A side 15 Morgan Williams, 14 Tomi Lewis, 13 Corey Baldwin, 12 Steffan Hughes © , 11 Steff Evans, 10 Angus O’Brien, 9 Kieran Hardy, 1 Rhys Fawcett, 2 Marc Jones, 3 Simon Gardiner, 4 Josh Helps, 5 Lewis Rawlins, 6 Lewis Ellis-Jones, 7 Shaun Evans, 8 Tom Phillips Replacements; 16 Jamie Hughes, 17 Dafydd Hughes, 18 Javan Sebastian, 19 Morgan Jones, 20 Chris Long, 21 Declan Smith, 22 Ethan Davies, 23 Ryan Conbeer, 24 Jac Price It great seeing Drovers up there but tinted with Llanelli at the foot of the table

The bottom line is that clubs that have forged the closest linkage with their respective regions are the ones most impacted by the A league introduction.
Harsh really. |

Fair comment. It's asking a lot of a place the size of Llanelli to have involvement in three teams at different levels in the structure. Local boys who either are not good enough, or don't have the ambition, will prefer to turn out for their home town teams, and who can blame them? Then, the best 'regional' players will join the Scarlets' system. That leaves Llanelli RFC in a tricky situation.

The Drovers squad only lists 10 players under 23, but 5 of them were in that Scarlets A 23. Just sayin' (Having said that, only 2 or 3 of the 5 would be first choice).

Rfc have no cash and been outbid for players who will play for more cash in Division pathetic state of affairs. Its sad to see so many Llanelli boys playing for the Quins and Llandovery, personally I would rather play for Llanelli Rfc and the facilities that come with it than for cash anywhere else .

These guys are plumbers, electricians, in the case of Ebbw Vale’s Ronnie Kynes a brickie who travels 4 hours a day for work. You can’t seriously expect them to turn down £100+ extra a week? |

Well, I can certainly understand why players who will not make it to the higher level ( or like a Sweeney/Lou Read or Damien Welch move down from the top but are tempted on very good wages). However, next season funding will be cut back hugely for Premiership clubs and the WRU have shown that if clubs want to pay inflated wages they will need to fund more themselves. What happens when the money runs out ?usually players on bigger wages look elsewhere. Llanelli of course, has its own challenges as Llanelli does not take on mature and high waged players and this is compounded by the complication that many young players, who would turn out for Llanelli, are in the A league, where the WRU is sending its funding so Llanelli is obviously at risk of relegation and then gaining funding of a pittance. Hopefully, the region will send back the cavalry at the end of the A league competition but it cannot be guaranteed. At least, if the cavalry return, Llanelli will have played some of the big boys first in Ebbw ,Ponty, Merthyr and on Saturday Llandovery but Llanelli's journey is very different to that of a good chunk of fellow clubs in the league who are not primarily dedicated to the WRU Player Pathway model. Not sure where the dust will settle on all this mind but its tough in the club at present with the young boys doing their best and they gave Merthyr a decent game on Saturday. I would love to know the respective wage bills !!!
