I am looking for some explanation over a rule that is puzzling me. I keep hearing with it appears Leinster only that they can only field two of their 3 Australian/NZ players - Lowe, Gibson-Park & Fardy in any match day 23. My questions are :-
1. Is this correct; 2. If so why doesn't Timane their long haired back who was a replacement last night & is an Australian I think not covered; 3. Does this ruling only apply to Irish teams? Any information on this would be helpful as it has continued to mystify me for some time. Many thanks.

Tomane has Samoan parents and could be covered by Kolpak ruling. Not sure.
Don't forget that the Irish teams may have their own internal quotas in matchday squads too. Like the WRU has on the 4 pro teams - Non Welsh player quotas and the like. |

He has a samoan passport and therefore exempt from the ruling.

This has confused me as well. The rules on player eligibility for the Champions Cup state
'3.7 Each club is permitted a maximum of two ‘non-European players’ in each match squad.' But from looking at so e teams they are loaded with players from outside Europe. I did email the Champions Cup website to clarify but never got a response. |

Well that Champions Cup rule is different to the Leinster situation. They are restricted for all games. I cannot also see the above rule being correct as most teams are littered with non European players - our squad today has Kennedy ( Welsh qualified = European ? ), Asquith, Blade ( Scottish = European ? ), Bulbring, Kruger & Jonny.

I suppose the other wrinkle in all of this is the 'time-server' status - I guess (but don't know) that time-servers who have not played for other nations are not captured by any quota... is that right? If so, then only Kruger is captured (I think) as he's had caps for SA.

If Welsh or Scottish qualified then they count as European + yes Pacific Island players also count as European players for this purpose due to the Kolpeck ruling. Some 'Kiwi' players also have a Fiji/Samoa/Tonga passport and so don't count as foreign

think its just an IRFU decision limiting each of the provinces for their allocation of non irish players
