Can't deny that Shaun Edwards has been one of the world's best defence coaches for many years - it's good that a role was sought for him as soon as the Wigan job fell through, and it's important to remember that he has been offered a future with the WRU twice now.

However, shoe-horning him into a set-up that already included a defence coach was never going to be easy and, after over a decade in the job, it's probably best that he moves on.

Part of his make-up, and the reason he worked so well and so closely for Gatland at Wales and Wasps, is that he doesn't really know his own mind, and doesn't actually want to be no.1 in a set-up. Wherever he goes next, he'll bring a hell of a lot of experience to support the top man.
