Guinness has taken over title sponsorship of the Six Nations for 6 years from 2019.

In the first year, they will pay just £6m, just over half of the reported £11m NatWest paid for a one-off deal last season, and a long way shy of the previous arrangement with NatWest's owener, RBS, who ended their 14-year backing in 2017.

However, the sponsorship amount will increase in each year of the deal, with up to £12m being paid for the 6th and final year. I make that a a total revenue of ~£54m over 6 years, half of what they were making with RBS.

Guinness banking on an Ireland Grand Slam, I think, but Diageo have bagged an absolute bargain - can't help thinking the Six Nations have sold the biggest & best annual rugby tournament a bit short there, and I suspect the PRO14 sponsorship won't be renewed when it ends as the money will be needed for the 6Ns budget.

Anyway, Sláinte! Beer

Disappointing figures, really - reflects the general downturn in the economy, I suppose... maybe especially the financial services sector.
I share no-one's ideas. I have my own.
