All Blacks head coach, Steve Hansen, has confirmed that he will step down after the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

Although this is no surprise, the real intentions of Mssrs Schmidt and Gatland may become clearer aver the next few months, although Hansen seems to be touting his assistant, Ian Foster, as his natural successor.

If New Zealand win the World Cup, Hansen will leave as the most successful All Blacks coach in history - big 10 months ahead for him and his would-be replacements.

It tends to be the NZ way - promote from within a very successful regime. I can see Foster being given the reigns with Robertson taking Foster's place ready to continue the dynasty.

As for Gatland he may well be looking to have a sabbatical in NZ ( not as if he doesn't get to spend much time there now) & follow the trials & tribulations of Eddie with interest.

I think Gatland would like the NZ job, and has to be a serious candidate - but they may well appoint one of the home based coaches, as you suggest.
I share no-one's ideas. I have my own.
