Young, which ever way you look at it, is another expensive player being brought back to Wales when they are at the tail end of their careers. Best value player so far is Johnny Williams at 24 who should go on to give many years of regional & International service. However with finances so restricted a valid case could have been made to utilise our own homegrown - Osian Knott for the Scarlets and Kieran Williams for Wales. In my mind for instance both Kieran & Owen Watkin are far superior to another expensive import - Tompkins.

Thomas Young is 28. Hardly on his last legs. Kalamafoni is 32 and has made a pretty decent contribution for us so far this season. Kieron Williams is an exciting young player, but slips off an alarming number of tackles at the moment. More than Tompkins I’d guess, but without nearly as much criticism. Watkin, aside from his rip turnovers, doesn’t appear to have any outstanding qualities. Opposition players seem to have wised up to his one trick too.

Thomas Young, like any 7 playing at the top level for a whilw, will be challenged to maintain his fitness behind the next season or two. It's such a high attrition role.
You can see the level of challenges Warburton, Navidi, Cudd, and Cubby have had in the last 12-18 months. Granted Tips is an exception. |

Thomas Young and Kalamafoni are two totally different beasts. Sione is an overseas player available all season long brought in specifically for two years to allow Carwyn to blossom. I think your comments on Watkin are pretty unfair - it wasn't that long ago that he made an absolute mess of Hadleigh & Foxy at the Liberty if I recall. Defensively the boy is very solid - give me him every day of the week ahead of Tompkins.

But Tipuric doesn’t do as much work at the breakdown and is more of a skill-focused type of player. Perhaps why he seems capable of keeping fit more than the others.

That's spot on! For all his strengths Tipuric is not a reknown breakdown operator .

Appreciate Jac has not left the region yet, but who would we be able to attract as a replacement?
As we definitely need one the amount of games our other open sides have missed throughout the last couple of seasons.

Why would we let a player go to them have to replace him with someone maybe not as good? Swansea City school of logic there. Just make Jac a good offer and see what happens.

I wonder if Will Boyde is out of contract. This is his second season with Cardiff. He’d be a useful squad player and wouldn’t cost the earth.

My only concern for Jac is if he has signed, what assurances/promises, if any, were made to him before he signed re game time ? I'd be very disappointed for him if he has signed and is now finding out that the O's are going after Thomas Young as well. |

Who said anything about letting him go, if he goes it’s because he doesn’t want to be here, have you that little confidence in the board that they wouldn’t keep our best prospect who the club have captained this season? Or would you just wait until he goes and not replace him, that’s some good logic you have there as you’d put it so kindly.

Basham & Ollie Griffiths would give Josh a run for his money but he is right up there with the best.

Basham was outstanding against us & the game 100% swung into our favour when he went off injured.
