A nice article about JB on the BBC rugby site.

He talks affectionately about the Scarlets, and the interviewer also compliments us.

JB says that he is settled here with his wife and two sons, and it seems to suggest that whilst his contract is up soon he would be open for an extension if offered.

I know the guy is 30, however he is a class act, and to give him another couple of years would be brilliant.
The support and guidance he has offered the likes of Cubby, and Will cannot be undervalued, so we must hang on to him

A great interview with JB prior to the 6 nations and write up. Says how important the Scarlets have been for him particularly during his International exile. He is very thankful to the management/supporters who always believed and stood by him. Also says how settled his family are with his son going to a Welsh school & Scott & Ken having to translate for him - great insight into one of our very best NWQ signings.

Absolutely LOVE this:

"It's hard to over-estimate what the Scarlets mean to Barclay. By the time his contract is up he'll have been there for five years. He might even stay a while longer. The club looked after him when he needed looking after. They invested in him. The supporters backed him to the hilt in his wilderness years in Scotland. He's settled and happy with his wife and their two young boys.

"There's a lot of good young players there and if they can keep hold of them they could be a very good team again. It feels like home. My eldest goes to Welsh pre-school. He loves it. Everything is in Welsh.

"He comes home and says something and I record it and I send it to [Scarlets centre] Scott Williams or [hooker] Ken Owens and they say, 'Oh, he said this...' I've no idea. Or I'll bring him into the club sometimes and Scott will say something to him in Welsh and he'll say something back. It's bizarre. It's really strange." "

Superb player, always delivers, fantastic signing.
I'd love for him to retire with us.

Lovely stuff to read. Fully agree that JB has been one of our best ever imports Smile Hopefully got a few good years in him yet!

Great interview. Having experienced pros like Barclay and Parkes is so important to the squad.

Definitely deserves a 2 year extension to his contact with a 3rd year option. Also get him started if he wants his coaching badges....

Great interview, top bloke and yes, we could do with keeping him until the very end of his career (or as close as we can get!) Cubby and Boyde have learnt/will learn so much from him. He's this generation's Simon Easterby for us.

Those words fair bring a tear to the eye.

Great to see the value and appreciation from all sides on this particular club-player-fans relationship, as well as loving the area and culture.

Yes, indeed.

John has been superb for the Scarlets, and let's hope he is offered a decent extension. I know we have a number of very good younger back row players, but he's like Simon Easterby - fearless, always puts his body in harm's way, and also can play anywhere across the back row. Plus, of course, the invaluable advice he can pass on to the up and coming players.

The fact that he seems settled and respects the local culture and language is another plus. Give the man a contract!
