Sale Sharks have confirmed that the club have released hooker Marc Jones to allow the hooker to join Welsh side Scarlets.

The 31-year-old made his way through the Sharks’ Academy and first appeared for the club in the (then) Guinness Premiership at Northampton in 2006.

Sharks’ Director of Rugby Steve Diamond said, “Marc has been a Sale lad through and through. He had a two-year excursion to Bristol but he came back home. He has an opportunity to play for Scarlets on a three-year deal. We decided it was best for all concerned and we wish him well.  After his career, if he finds himself in Manchester, there’ll always be an opportunity for him.”

wow didn't see this one coming. he is a good solid player with lots of premiership experience. very wise if both ken and ryan are in the welsh squad and with the loss of emyr.

Good signing. We shall definitely lose our two Hookers to Wales and Marc is a good solid back up.

Much needed experience for the International periods. We have two young hookers who have some developing still to do.

Very good, very good.

We’ve a couple of v promising hookers in Taylor and Dafydd H...but we would have to put at least 1 in to the European squad I suggest...might be a year early perhaps.

A signing akin to Phil Price this. Da iawn.

Frustrating that again this was announced by the club of the player moving, not us. Still nothing official from the Scarlets!

Makes sense I suppose, especially with Ken and now Elias both Welsh squad regulars. He’s taken Emyr’s position I’d guess. I hope Daf Hughes sees more playing time this season though. Seriously impressed by him.

Good signing, experienced professional who will come into his own during the international window and during next years woprld cup. Dafydd will kick on this season I’m sure, but having competition for the hooker position during the international window can only be good for him.

Seems as though Sale jumped the gun before everything was completed this end !

Sensible cover for Ken and Elias... good work.
