Similar issue with Hardy... The one having game time with Wales is the one that had regional game time during internationals.

Theres more than enough back 3 players in that welsh squad.

Great for Mcnicholl, great to see another scarlet in the squad. But it's killing us.
Can't see it being that great for Mcnicholl, really. If he gets the nod he'll play Georgia in an empty stadium on a wet day and probably won't get much ball.Whatever happens they're not going to drop Halfpenny. If they ďid,Mcnicholl would be crucified by the Welsh media for some aspect of his  play after the England game,as would Pivac(but probably not Jones)for picking him.

The biggest nonsense is this. Last week he had his worst game for us, this week one of his best for a long time. So Pivacs basically picking him on one good game. Shows the desperation and hypocrisy re the bubbles etc. And if he starts with Biggar this week I’m leaving. Not sure where though.

Putting it that way, it makes even more amazing.  Why do they need 3 fullbacks from the same region in the squad (apart from familiarity with them).  They also have both scrum halves (one of whom hasn’t even played 1 minute of rugby so far this autumn and has seen Lloyd Williams catapulted into the squad and put in front of him.

Part of the reasoning for JMac staying was to play for Wales, similarly why WQ players come to Wales when part of other nations leagues and/or age grade set ups ( Tompkins, Rowlands, Jonny W and others).
This works well if they are better than what we have of course, but making a commitment to select them in a squad is a risk when there's always a doubt whether they make the grade or not...see Wilgriff John

JMac's early injury return and good form last weekend did have a stated incentive at the end of it ( a call up), and he focused on it, and rightly so.

Does nothing for the Scarlets region of course.

Funny how players can be called up from a 'bubble' but can not be released, it doesnt work both ways does it, WRU are not helping the regions at all..

I'm growing tired of the call ups & non release, I don't think we ever got many released when Gatland was in charge. Probably explains my non excitement at watching the national side recently.

I was putting the non-release of the fringe players in the Wales squad down to the risk of introducing covid to the Wales bubble. But calling up Botham and Johnny blows that one out of the water. And calling up players from two regions rather than one further increases the risk, albeit marginally. As Pivac spoke at length before the start of the international period about the need for bio-security, I put these call ups down to desperation.

Whisper it quietly on here but another sign of a Wales management losing it is selecting Botham in front of Jac Morgan.

England have sent a few players back to their clubs after ringing the changes in their training squad ahead of the match against Ireland on the weekend..... no COVID issue there.
