As far as carrying goes and smashing your way through tackles goes, height is not a particular advantage. In fact it means a higher centre of gravity which means the tackler has more leverage to tip you over. Obviously it has advantages for the lineout, and for covering ground / tackling /catching etc in the loose and being tall in the scrum is a positive disadvantage. Barry Llew was about 6ft 2 and a good compromise for loose and tight play. Of course in his day there wasn't so much emphasis  on carrying. Krugger is just about the best carrier we now have. He is of similar build, although his scrummaging isn't quite as good as we'd want in a starting loose head who we'd like to be capable of putting pressure on the opposing scrum.

Two of the poorest teams in the Colleges league. I have watched Pedr for 4 years now. Believe me, he really isn't one to watch and wouldnt get close to a Scarlets age grade team

Watching that game i was impressed with the Sir Benfro 13 looked like a mini foxy perhaps one for the future.

Only saw a small amount of that game anyone else worth looking at for the future.

Was he? I didn't realise. But the exception not the rule.

Wasn't Andrew Sheridan 6' 5" as well

Sheridan was an interesting case as TH prop - he used to eat Aussie LH props for breakfast, but didn't fare so well against some Europeans - he depended on power (he had plenty of that) rather than technique. A sense of balance - as well as the ability to con the ref - are also top qualities needed in a prop!

(BTW - I'm not sure if Ffidel has done a typo above - referring to Kruger as a LH - or if he's suggesting a switch - but Kruger is too old to try changing sides, IMHO. He's an excellent carrier, and does OK in the scrums except against really top class opposition. A keeper for next season, I think.)
I share no-one's ideas. I have my own.

Yes, I started to remember that just after posting... I think the earlier post made me think he was a TH... the point about power vs technique holds, though - especially if you are old enough (like me) to remember 'Mighty Mouse' McLauchlan, who stood all of 1.76m in his cotton socks!

I have my doubts about tall TH props too. Hayman was the exception and scrummaging laws have changed since then.
Sheridan was LH of course.

Yes, it was a mistake  but I thought I'd corrected it immediately after in the edit. If not, I'm not really sure what I did in the edit !! Must be cracking up.

He has been 4 years in an academy. They have more time, money and effort put into them than semi pros. He isnt good enough. Wouldn't make a Scarlets age grade team. Such is pro rugby. He is just big. Academy rugby is [beep]ing harsh. Speak to those in it. Capped at 16. Gone at 17

It would be timely to announce some retentions, timely in as much as my sorry Scarlet arse is dragging on the floor and needs a morale boost.
