With 12 players in the squad the Scarlets have clearly done their bit but the others, Dragons in particular have not pulled their weight especially when the u20's are always full of Bedwas players you really have to wonder what goes wrong after that.

Sorry, that is a bit negative considering we nearly made the final but that team does look weak.

The Dragons have some cracking players coming through in all fairness
I still wake up late at night and think of what might have been when tim stimpson hit that jammy penalty1

21 missed tackles in the first half, apparently. Radio Wales highlighting this as an issue throughout the tournament.

Looks as if we came through without too many injury concerns which was my biggest concern. Lost the collisions and therefore lost the game. Our defence throughout the tournament has been sub-standard; we have been weak on the gainline conceding valuable metres almost every tackle.

Now that the tournament is over for us lets look at the positives for the future - Adams was my Wales player of the series - always looking to get involved, never shirking, constantly switched on - George watch & learn. Carre, Dee, Lewis, Beard, Wainwright, Patchell, Watkin & Adams can be proud of their efforts & will hopefully form the nucleus going forward to the next World Cup.

Patchell's ability to throw different passes marks him out as different; he is prepared to challenge the line and look for offloads. Added to that his kicking from hand & tee have been absolute quality. If only Wales had trusted their backs and sought pace & width in the semi final we would have been playing tomorrow. Sometimes Gatland's conservatism costs games. Trying to win arm wrestles only works when your defence is firing and ours hasn't been throughout the tournament.

Hope Patchell hasn't been injured in a game that is utterly pointless.

Think the other thing to remember is that there is a Wales match at the end of the match against the Baa Baas...

Gatland's style of rugby is rarely pretty, but he has brought Wales a lot of success - so praise to him and his coaching team for overall an excellent effort over the last 12 years.

It's a pity we didn't learn from England's approach v NZ - if you are going to box kick, make sure you can contest the ball... giving the ABs time and space is not exactly a good plan. They also seemed overall to have a lot more quality in the 23 - we looked to be more depleted by injuries - they have more strength in depth for sure. They also thought/reacted quicker in 'non-standard' situations when the ball didn't end up where it was expected... Wales need to think faster and react more quickly.

As for the future - so long as his injury is not too bad, surely it is time for Patchell to be first pick at 10? Biggar is brave but limited - and lacked the pace to tackle Mo'unga near the end. Tomos W v Cawdor is harder to call - Tomos is excellent in attack, but weaker defensively - and Cawdor can also do damage from long range, as we know. I'd keep him as first choice, for now.

From a Scarlets' perspective, it looks as if all our forwards are free of injury, though they'll need a good rest. The backs, on the other hand, look banged up - 1/2p with concussion (?), Parkes with arm/shoulder injuries, Foxy with his left leg heavily strapped and now Patch with a wrist/arm/shoulder knock - not sure which it is. The sooner they are all back fit and firing, the better.
I share no-one's ideas. I have my own.

I have a feeling a fair few may be involved against the Baa Baas.

No reason why Shingler, Elias and Cubby can't be fast tracked back into the Scarlets

There’s a 4-6 week break for Wales RWC squad members

I found it interesting that Wales showed far more enterprise in the first half than they had throughout the World Cup, and had quite a bit of success from it, they showed how to move the ball wide after going through a few phases of play and how to create space for the wide players.
However, as the substitutions were made in the second half and we included more of the established players, we gradually returned to the same old possession based game, going through phase after phase without gaining many yards and without looking to spread it wide, making it easy for NZ to defend.
I’d like to thank Gatland for producing a winning environment and would like to wish Wayne all the best in building on Gatland’s legacy and hopefully adding to it, by getting this set of players to play what’s in front of them and using the ball more efficiently and wisely.
