Run mcafee but that reckons there's no prob, this ntivirus thing reckons i've 455 viruses and need to install antivirus 2008 at a cost of £99! I wasn't born yesterday, can't uninstall av2008 either.

Quite right. Kids today don't know they're born. They should have to find their porn in hedgerows like what we had to.

its a fake anti spyware thing.  i recommend installing:
spybot search+destroy
ad-aware
AVG free antivirus
this should take care of your computer if you want it virus free and not being slowed down by the security apps.  maybe considering installing the zonealarm firewall too.  that works well but can slow down internet downloads

Come over to the light side and use mac OS. Whilst not totally free from the vagaries of these nutters there are so few of us most people leave us alone!!

What are the benefits of having Mac?
Having had PC's since the good old Dos days, 386 and all that, I've never really felt a need to change to a system that so few companies support.
But feel free to enlighten me.

another quick question, how do you secure a wireless internet connection, recently changed my router and believe its not secure??

Usually, your wireless ISP will give you a security key before so that you can log in via your router each time.
If you've bought the router yourself though, you'll need to put the IP address of your router into a browser, this will usually display a web page where you can set your own security key.
What make's your router? Did it come with instructions?

Well for me it's just a super-fast computing experience. The machine boots up and shuts down far faster than any Windows system I've ever used. The OS is very intuitive and can be easily picked up, admittedly XP etc are also pretty good. Usually Apple launch a product with the vast majority of bugs already ironed out, so you don't have to get SP1 to however many.

From a security point of view they seem far less vulnerable to attack than other OS, and the built in Firewall actually does work and you need none other. There is plenty of good freeware out and about so you can usually get whatever you need free of charge, and at a decent quality. Neo-office is a perfectly good office suite and is completely free of charge.

mac probably isn't for everyone and the price can be a bit steep, but as someone who uses XP all day on the work pc, and mac for pleasure I know which one I'd use out of choice.

problem with Macs is that they aren't upgradeable. you are stuck with the spec that you bought.

Alun security point of view is a load of bull.

if you are a hacker or virus creator, what would you attack. 94% of the market or the other 6%. that's why macs have less security issues, because they only have 6% of the market.

Macs have their advantages though, they are the best for video and graphics editing, well they were until they went over to intel architecture.

the MAC was much much more powerfull than the standard pc, because it used it's own architecture, thus making it impossible to upgrade. now that it uses the intel architecture macs aren't as powerfull as they used to be. plus they can have windows installed on them.

don't get me wrong i have an admiring respect for the MAC of old, but they will never take over the mantle of the primary home pc.

You would think that they would rock the market now as home pcs are generally used as media centres and thats what the MACs are built for. I used a G3 when they 1st came out and that was awesome, sadly thats my last experience of the MAC as career changed direction. As for upgrading dont think many people upgrade there CPU's, most dont know they can so just buy a new PC !

Its actully very easy to upgrade a mac, just upgraded my macbook recently. Also I find that the inter chips are much faster than the g4 chip I used, especially when converting video formats!!!

macs are a load of crap. end of.

maybe there are less security issues but theres also less programs and, as much as a mac fanboy would argue, there are much less features.  most people that own macs get it for style and eyecandy and, imo, my desktop looks as kickass as any mac youve seen :)
